Ailyn, who did not wish to give her last name, stands across the road from the President Bush protesters outside the Naval War College in Newport, R.I., Thursday, June 28, 2007. Ailyn's husband is an active duty Marine on his second tour of Iraq. President Bush was speaking to cadets and staff at the war college. (AP Photo/Stew Milne)

2. She looks pretty lonely.
Her husband is on his second tour of duty in Iraq and she still hearts bush?

4. That's what I don't understand.
 I imagine she misses her husband, and probably wants him to come home safely...so why the support of Bush, who couldn't care less about our troops?

7. Or maybe there is no husband on a second tour of duty...
and that is why she did not want to be identified by name. Much like those "former Democrats" who call in to radio and TV shows.

3. I feel sorry for Ailyn
this might be the only way she can cope with having a loved one placed in danger again and again. What will really be sad is when she realizes that what she supports is really a sham--and she shatters her ideals on the rock of Truth.

8. I think you may be right about the coping mechanism.
I remember when there was a "Gathering of Eagles" or some other pro-war march thing held in a town near where I live, and and the newspaper that covered it interviewed the mother of one of our local Marines who had been killed in action. She was very pro-war and in favor of supporting the war & the president...I think maybe if you can see it like that, then it's easier to believe that your child (or friend, or other loved one) did not die in vain for a madman's ego. :( So sad. I hope Ailyn's husband comes home safely - hell, I hope every husband, wife, son, daughter, brother, sister, and friend over there comes home safely, but it's already too late for that. Damn you, Bush!
