Tell me again who are the values voters?
We all remember rolling out of bed on the morning of November 3rd, 2004 and hearing the talking heads insist that a group of people they called "values voters" had won the election for George Bush.

And just who were these people the media said were so greatly concerned about moral values?

They were people who believed it was moral to bomb a country and kill innocent civilians because of a lie. They were people who believed it was a moral value to attack families who happened to be headed by a same sex couple. It was a moral value to have absolutely shame in attacking a child's parents because they happened to be of the same gender. It was a moral value to believe that help for poor should be cut while payments to Halliburton are increased. It was a moral value to believe that women should be forced to perform a delicate medical procedure with a coat hanger. It was a moral value to believe that we should do nothing to stop global warming and the destruction of our environment. It was a moral value to believe that embryonic stem cells should be thrown in the dumpster instead of being used to find cures to serious illnesses. It was a moral value to believe that electoral theft was acceptable.

Yes, these were the values of the people who our media told us were casting their votes based on morality.

The ones who they told us were not quite so concerned about values were the people believed in such things peace, equality, helping the poor, protecting the environment, and providing health care to everyone.

No they told us, the ones who stood up for real moral values were not the values voters, instead it was the voters who stood up for war and against minority groups who were practicing morality in the eyes of the corporate media.

We know who the real values voters are though. They are the voters who believe that we need to protect our planet for future generations. They are the voters who want to stop the killing in Iraq. They are the voters who believe that discrimination should never be written into the Constitution. They are the voters who believe that we need to fight poverty as a society and not leave people to fend for themselves. They are the voters who voted against having a criminal run the White House.

No matter what propaganda our corporate media uses to define morality we know what real morality is, and looks nothing like the "morality" promoted by the religious right.

1. That is what bothers me most about republicons
Past the fact that they support bu$h and cheney, the one thing that has always bothered me about the republicon voter is that they claim to be the "moral majority" the family values party and that crap. Then they sit there and vote for the most criminal thugs this nation has seen.
They are against abortion because it kills but they support the death penalty and war. How much sense does that make.
They are moral people but justify the lying of the people they support in public office.

Bush lost ground in rural/suburban areas....but the largest cities (the traditional stronghold of Democratic voters) came out like gangbusters for Bush. Riiiiight.
