1. You know, brokered conventions aren't all that bad. I don't know why your are so freaked out about

them.

A brokered convention, many times, means that a consensus is reached (a compromise) that most of the party faithful can live with.

The losers almost always throw their support to the nominee and work to get him/her elected.

To tell you the truth, I would rather see a convention that decides the nominee rather than the forgone conclusions we've had recently where just a few states decide. I never feel my vote counts for much in the pres. primary anymore.

Three strong candidates and a fourth if Gore jumps in.
Each at about 20% on average across all the states with early primaries

Winner in Iowa and New Hampshire will not get more than 28% which means not momemtum for anyone going into 2/5.

No time for anyone to get off the ballot in any of the 2/5 states, which means no one is going to run the table that day.


Which means with the 20 states that are left, there are not enough remaining to capture the flag outright.


So unless the super delegates all glom towards one candidate. This thing is going to a second ballot, maybe even a third.

Even if there's a front-runner, he/she seldom gets a majority on the first ballot, and then the fun starts. There have been some real surprises this way, as in Alberta recently.

11. True...but in the past 10 election cycles

there has not been on in either party.

Let's say Gore get in and wind up with 35% of the delegate and Hillary gets 30% and Edwarda and Obama split the rest. Obama who finished third in the delgate count and third on the first ballot, but finished second on the second ballot because Edwards withdrew and threw his support behind Obama on the promise that he would be chosen for VP.

A three way split between the three and the campaing looks deadlocked. In a Brokered convention the party fathers look at the math and the GOP nominee and determine there best SHot is with Obama.


Not going to sit well with Gore and CLinton backers.
