Why I will support the Dem Nominee
Edited on Thu Jun-28-07 10:23 PM by usregimechange
Until today I was not sure if I could actively support the Dem nominee if Hillary won the nomination. But, today's Supreme Court opinions including one overturning school integration, reminds me emphatically of the importance of having a Dem President.

Justice John Paul Stevens is squarely in the Liberal bloc on the Supreme Court. He is also 87 years old. Life expectancy in the United States is about 78 years old.

I can no longer think about not uniting behind our nominee. No one wishes death on anyone (I hope) for political reasons, but forgive me for wishing selectively on Justice Stevens health and for unity of the American left. Do you agree?

2. Hillary is my first choice, but I have said all along that I will vote for
Edited on Thu Jun-28-07 10:29 PM by William769
Whoever gets the Democratic nomination.

It's a shame that some people can't see whats actually at stake.

Yet If they don't vote for the Democratic nominee, I'll wager any amount of money they will be the one's bitching the most about who's running the
Country.

ON EDIT: And I won't even have to hold my nose for whoever the nominee is.

3. That was true in 2004, yet Dem elite made sure Bush had just enough help to steal another election.
Now they want to gain the power AFTER the road to fascism has been cleared. Their job will be to bring along the left to accept their smiling brand of fascism.

Support open government Democrats, not those serving secrecy and privilege. Not again.

They acted as the enemy within till it was their turn to reign.

I will support ONLY a DEMOCRAT. Not a smiling fascist Pied Piper.

about come election time.

It's not just about the personality contest, but it's about THEIR lifestyle and rights.

Edited on Sat Jun-30-07 04:14 AM by Pushed To The Left
He is very non-partisan. However, if the right wing gets to replace Stevens, it won't matter which way Kennedy votes!

honest?! Yea, I don't hear them saying anything about Bush/Cheney criminals! I know what they did to Gore!

Tell CNN to keep Bush/Cheney honest! I also noticed CNN saying that Bush/Cheney won the elections so thay had the right to appoint whomever they so wanted to the Supreme Court! Bull! Bush/Cheney did "not" win the election! I am tired of hearing their lies!

18. Somewhat morbid post...
... but true.

And to those saying "It will still be 5-4 wingnuts" and the like, that is not necessarily true.

A truly great legal mind can bring others around. I know it all seems so polarized, but if we have a Dem President who puts another Warren or Brennan on the court, there will be a change. There will still be those 5-4 heart breakers like we've been seeing lately. But there will be less of them. Instead the block of SC cases that make up the majority of their decisions, the 9-0's, 8-1's, etc. will grow. Warren took a still divided court an gave us a 9-0 decision in Brown.

Plus there is something to be said for "merely" keping it 5-4. If it did go 6-3, imagine the years it will take to recover. Imagine the liberties that our grandchildren may never even know existed.

Vote Dem.

And progressives, lefties, socialists and others out there on the margins of DU land, - I know some of the dems are in the pockets of the corporations more than others. I'm with ya. But I also want my granddaughter to have control over her own body.

Work your heart out to get your candidate the nomination. But after that, don't hand the country to Romney or F. Thompson.

19. The only reason I'm still a Democrat. Consider the ages and health of all of
the "liberal" Justices. The next President could possibly make four nominations, if it isn't a Democrat, we're well and truly fucked.

voting for Hillary Clinton. Since I'm in an overwhelmingly red state, though, it won't really make a lot of difference whom I vote for.

33. I believe this is the most important reason to vote for the Democratic nominee
Not only for President, but for the Senate as well. We need a President who will appoint an honest, non-partisan justice, and we need a Senate that will block any radical right-wing nominees should a Republican win or steal the Presidency. Not supporting the Democratic nominee is just like voting to roll back civil rights and overturn Roe v. Wade. The right wing NEEDS to be taken out of power, and our only hope to do that is Democratic victory.
