The DNC women were here this evening
A friend of mine invited me to a get together at her house for Democratic women. There were 2 women there from New York. They were trying to recruit us to a group called the Democratic Women's Leadership Forum. It was a nice little tea party setting. I wore my IMPEACH BUSH AND CHENEY shirt.

They talked about the party and how Howard Dean is trying to build it and how much better it is since he took over, etc, etc, etc. And we should all be precinct chairs and help Dems get elected and oh we should also give them $125 to join their group.

So after they gave their little speeches, they opened it up for questions and a few of the polite women asked polite questions.

Then I raised my hand.

I told them I was representing the left of the left of the party. I told them I was a lifelong Democrat and had always voted Democrat and probably always would. I said I had received dozens of letters in the mail and I get probably at least one email a day from my party wanting money for the DSCC or the DCCC or for one of the many Democratic presidential candidates. Then I pointed at my IMPEACH shirt and said "I don't wear this shirt because I like the color" I said I had 6 or 7 IMPEACH shirts and I wear one almost every day, wherever I go. And until the Democrats we elected in November grow a spine and IMPEACH the men in the administration AND end the damn war, I had no intention of giving a dime to the party. I told them I reply to every email and every snail mail I receive with the same message:

IMPEACH BUSH AND CHENEY
END THE WAR
Then you will get my money.

I said I was tired of hearing the excuses that they don't have the votes or the time to impeach. I said this is criminal behavior, there is more than enough evidence and it's not about votes or time, it is a moral issue. I reminded them that the endangered species act was passed and the minimum wage was raised while Congress also gathered evidence and built a case to impeach Nixon. I also reminded them that it took 31 votes to end the war in Vietnam, so our Congress had better get busy. I told them that there were several women in that room tonight who stand on the streets in this city twice a week and get cursed at and have things thrown at us but we are always there because we are so angry and so desperate to end the war and impeach our president and vice president. We have no choice but to take to the streets and we are sick and tired of our elected leaders, especially the Democrats, ignoring what we want.

I said we did not work our tails to the bone last summer to elect Claire McCaskill and Nancy Boyda so they could go to DC and vote to continue funding the war. And we need Democrats, especially women, who truly represent what the people want, and vote the way their constituents want. I reminded them that Cheney's approval ratings were 9% and I asked how much lower they need to get before the Democrats throw the book at him and impeach him.

Then I shut up. A few other women commented that they only had so much money and until the Democrats end the war they would give their money to peace groups. I went into the next room to get a glass of wine (and I rarely drink :) ) and the hostess followed me in there and thanked me for speaking out. One woman said she wanted the party to recognize the talent and the passion of women all over the country and truly represent what every woman in the country wants. She said we are involved, our feet are on the ground and it's time our representatives recognized us and honored our wishes.

When the party was over, I had several women thank me and tell me I said exactly what they were thinking.

Then as I was leaving, one of the New York women came over to me and told me I should run for office!

I told her I would be the Democratic party's worse nightmare. There is no way I could toe the party line 24/7.

She said she worked for Hillary and she went on and on about all the good things Hillary had done since she was elected. I told her I was through being rude and so I wouldn't tell her how I really felt about Hillary. And I wanted to end my evening on a positive note.

Anyway sometimes you just have to vent, you know? :)

18. Damn!!
If the full story of George H.W. Bush’s role in secret deals with Iraq and Iran had ever been made public, the Bush Family’s reputation would have been damaged to such a degree that George W. Bush’s candidacy would not have been conceivable.

Not only did Clinton inadvertently clear the way for the Bush restoration, but the Right’s political ascendancy wiped away much of the Clinton legacy, including a balanced federal budget and progress on income inequality. A poorly informed American public also was easily misled on what to do about U.S. relations with Iraq and Iran.

33. Exactly why you were right to demand the most simple of notions, that citizens
be treated like citizens who need factual information to do their job as citizens and not be treated just as voters to be manipulated with rhetoric.

12. Good for you for speaking up .
Actually I am rather surprised that the Clinton campaign is organizing at that level in Kansas. National Dem candidates so often ignore the apple red fly over states.

Before you remind me, I am aware of some of the changes like Nancy' success and Gov. Sebelius. But still, that is impressive. And I agree, you should run for office.

Boyda has disappointed me and since I twice contributed to her campaign I have written and called her office to register my disappointment. Are you in her district?

13. Yes, that is all we need more
folks wanting HRC to grovel abbout that Iraq vote. She will not apoligize for the vote, so get over it. I bet you did not raise this question in 04 when you most likely supported Kerry, so whats the big deal. But I tell you what if you think HRC cannot win then you have bought into the right wing talking points. HRC cannot win. Ever wonder why they say that? They know she can win and whom do you think the racist right wing would love to run against? uh huh Obama....

But I respect your right to be critical of my candidate, but after it is all said and done and she wins the nomination, then keep voicing your opinions but support the only democrat that will fight and fight to win in 08.

Now to all you HRC supporters that keep on hearing this she cannot win and When someone says, "Do we want 8 more years of Filegate, Travelgate, Blowjobs, etc?" here is opne response to use on them "That's better than terror, invasions, torture, renditions and signing statements."

I do thank you
Ben David

And yes, I did speak out about the war in 04.

I will probably leave the party if she gets the nomination. I will vote for her over a republican. But I will have to hold my nose to do it.

40. Many of us don't like her, and it isn't personal it's for bs. reasons
so GET OVER THAT. We're not going to shut up. We're not going to shut up NOW, and we're not going to shut up if she gets the nomination, and we're not going to shut up if she should be elected.

As a Democrat, she makes a good Rockefeller Republican, ya know? Not unlike her husband, tho it took many of us far too long to catch on to THAT and some never had. She's as bad as he is, if not worse, without the charisma. Yeccch.

You may get our votes -- tho that's not assured -- but we DON'T have to like it and we DON'T have to shut up about it.

So I'll hand your advice right back to you: GET OVER IT.

26. proud2be, I agree with the New York woman -
Run, babe, run. The last thing we need in DC is the "party line". You'd be terrific, and I'd work my ass off for ya! (not that I have much of one at 110 pounds.....).

Start small. I'll do the secretarial stuff! I'm good at it, given over 30 years experience..... and I know the programs and graphics.

35. Good for You....That took some courage...but at this point courage is all we have.
I've been to a few meetings like the one you attended. I reacted like you did.... But, I can't go anymore because I get too angry that nothing changes and when you speak up you are appreciated and told to run for office. It get's to hard to explain that people who are outspoken (in our current system) will never get elected to office BECAUSE they are outspoken and tell the truth. sigh....

I told her I was political chair for my DFA chapter and she said "What's that?"

Talk about out of touch! She works for Howard Dean and she didn't even recognize the group he started and his brother now leads. Sheesh.
