It's PATIO GAS! Run for your lives.
And I don't mean your Uncle Louie after scarfing baked beans at the barbecue. The so-called latest is that the Brits found a cylinder of "patio gas" in the Mercedes Benz. I think it was next to a box of "wood construction attachment devices."

Patio gas, btw, refers to a cylinder of propane you'd attach to your grill. We're grilling there, so we don't have to grill over here.

Guy couldn't have an outstanding warrant for anything, could he. He obviously intended to blow up the world since he ran from the Bobbies.

It's Friday and a very bad one for Mssrs Bush and Blair. Just sayin.

28. People run from car crashes ALL THE TIME here in SoCal, lol.
Generally it's an indication that they are uninsured, that the car is unregistered, and/or that the driver is in the country illegally. Usually all three.

6. Umm...
A car bomb planted in central London would have caused "carnage" if it had exploded, police sources have said.

A controlled explosion was carried out on the car, packed with 60 litres of petrol, gas cylinders and nails, in the early hours in Haymarket.

Police were alerted by an ambulance crew who saw smoke coming from the silver Mercedes, parked near the Tiger Tiger nightclub.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6252276.stm

So I take it you'd be cool with hanging out next to a smoking car full of gasoline and propane, eh? Balls of steel on you, mister.

9. Car full of gasoline sounds sorta normal - what size tank on that BMW model? 60 liters is not a lot
60 liters is equal to 15.85 gallons (US)

Propane, yeah, SOME people use that for peaceful purposes (well, until PETA shows up, then it can get dicey). Most people do carry their peaceful purpose propane home in cars filled with gasoline. (My tank holds more than 60 liters and it is a smaller car)

Nails, yep, dangerous but not without peaceful uses either.

I'll wait for more convincing evidence before I scream terra terra terra. So far, it doesn't really make much of a case, even run through the media cycle.

Could be an improvised tactical weapon. Could be a trip home from shopping for the new deck and grill.

The fact that a beemer was used does give credence to the "'International elements" are believed to be involved, the BBC has been told." part of the story. But, when the media gets 'told' stuff instead of uncovering facts on their own, I tend to be just a bit cautious about taking the report as gospel truth. Too much hook, line, sinker involved in taking the word of whoever it was who "told" the BBC what was involved. It's Friday. News for the junta, on both sides of the pond, has not been good this week. The world is ripe for another in a long line of diversions.

Waiting for the afternoon news dump myself. Might be an interesting day.

A Mercedes left near the Tiger Tiger nightclub in Haymarket was packed with 60 litres of petrol in containers, propane gas canisters and hundreds of nails. It also had a full tank of petrol.

10. Those clips say NOTHING
Edited on Fri Jun-29-07 08:43 AM by Atman
How much smoke? Was the guy smoking in his car? I don't think that's illegal (yet).

Seriously, you're doing EXACTLY what they want you to do...not reading between the words, nevermind between the lines. Have you ever heard them say how much smoke, or what kind of smoke? Was it billowing white or black smoke, or the smoke that would come out of the windows if a man were inside SMOKING? Nope...no one even asks. Just read the words, mix 'em with hysteria, and assume the worst. Same for the other clips.

"Packed with 60 liters of petrol?" What the hell does that mean? Petrol, gasoline, is a liquid last I checked. It's tough to pack. Perhaps, gosh...the car had a GAS TANK? "60 liters" is just shy of 16 gallons of gas. AMAZING! Again, they're using the Brit terms because most American don't know a liter unless it's got a COKE label on it, and will assume, as you're appearing to do, that the car was "packed" with canisters of fuel. Sounds like it just had a nearly full tank of gas.

Also, we're now hearing that there was just ONE CYLINDER of "patio gas" -- grill propane -- not "packed with," or "filled with" cylinders. One tank.

I'm telling you, the nails will turn out to be a standard box of nails like you'd buy from Tru Value.

I don't have balls of steel. I just have tons of cynicism and the ability to dissect their bullshit.

Who? What "they" are you talking about? That nutjob conservative Ken Livingstone?

Or perhaps they are using "Brit" terms because it's the British Broadcasting Corporation?

If you are seriously arguing that this is about some dude trying to have a back yard barbecue you're not being cynical. You're being irrational.

Please...I know you're smarter than than. Do you really think all I am saying is that this was just a guy going to a backyard barbecue? At 2 in the morning? Near a bar? Come on, get real. There is a lot more the "reading" than just repeating written words.

CNN, btw, is NOT the BBC. They're reporting to an American audience. Why not tell it straight, in terms they know most Americans will understand? Why not just say 16 gallons?

They did mention "gas cylinders." I don't grill ... how many cylinders of "patio gas" would equal 200 liters or about 50 gallons?

16. I haven't heard them say that.
Propane cylinders are actually measured by weight. I believe you're mis-hearing CNN...they've been saying "60 LITERS" of "fuel," which is just 16 gallons, the size of an average car gas tank. CNN, since you're quoting them, also had the photographer on who had a pic of the scene. He reporter ONE cylinder of propone, like you'd use for your grill. An eyewitness, with a photo, not the government issuing vague statements designed to provoke fear.

Car bomb would have caused huge fireball

June 29, 2007

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article2004526.ece

snip-->

The “patio gas” bomb defused in Haymarket would have generated a fireball the size of a house and a shock wave spreading out over a diameter of at least 400 yards, explosives experts said today.

The propane cylinders and petrol used in the device would have triggered a huge conflagration, as well as causing shrapnel and blast injuries from the exploding car chassis and the nails packed around the bomb, according to Hans Michels, Professor of Safety Engineering at Imperial College, London.

Just one 13kg propane canister — the type sold by Calor under the brand name “Patio Gas” — would release a highly flammable cloud of vapour that would spread over an area of 50 to 60 cubic metres before igniting into a still larger fireball, he said.

“The vapour cloud from one cylinder would fill the order of a big room, and when it ignited the effect would be even bigger,” Professor Michels said. “In addition to the power of the explosion and the shrapnel, you would get a fireball the size of a small house.”

As several propane or butane cylinders were recovered, the volume of the fireball would have been greater still, though it is impossible to calculate the size without knowing how much gas would have been involved.

Another example of how dangerous propane can be....

"Three Workers Died following a Propane Gas Explosion on a Quail/Pheasant Farm

http://www.health.state.ok.us/program/injury/okface/brooder.htm

The brooder's gas supply line appeared to be a regular pneumatic hose, which ran from
the brooder, up to the ceiling, and outside to a 20 pound capacity portable propane tank.

All three men were transported to a nearby hospital and then transferred to a regional burn center.
The worker who had run to the house to summon help died eight days after the date of the incident.
The worker who was overcome after rescuing the owner died 34 days later, and the owner died 57 days
after the incident."

-------------------

http://www.gasdetectorsinc.com/Gas%20Detector-info.htm">General Information on Hazardous Gases

(IV) Propane

Propane (C3H8) is heavier than air (1.5 times denser). In its raw state, propone (sometime is called LPG or LP-gas)
"is an odorless and colorless gas. Propane is flammable when mixed with air (oxygen). The fact that it has a tendency
to stay low to the ground means there's more potential for propane to be ignited and cause an explosion.

While propane is used as a gas for fueling appliances, it is transported and stored as a liquid under high pressure in specially designed containers referred to either as tanks or cylinders. When propane changes into gas vapor, it expands in volume by about 270 times, meaning that propane is very economical to store and transport as a liquid rather than as a gas vapor. However, this characteristic also means that even a small leak of liquid propane can result in much larger quantity of propane vapor, which can be especially dangerous in a confined space.

Similar to any other flammable gas or flammable liquid, propane is very safe when stored and handled properly. However, if propane is not properly and safely stored and handled, it can cause property damage, injuries, or even death. For this reason, it is important for the safety of the members of your household that they have a thorough understanding of the properties and characteristics of propane, and the hazards and risks associated with its use.

In the first place, show me the last "terrorist" outfit that blew up a late model BMW or Mercedes? Also, when i sthe last time you saw a Joe Schmoe tow truck outfit entrusted with loading up such an allegedly monumentally destructive explosive device. Puh-lease!

Also, the car owner appears to have been preparing to build a deck on which to put his new BBQ grill.

The REAL story is to scare and distract those remaining few that still believe cable news and to get going on the installation of millions of CCT cameras in America.

CNN is covering this thing like the first moon landing. The coverage is actually quite funny in that the rampant, unending speculation and fear mongering is astounding. The camera shots are pretty funny as well. They keep showing inane shots of police tape, deserted streets.

27. How do you know that?
I haven't heard anyone say it was rigged to a cell phone. I've seen an eye witness telling CNN - and offering photos - that there was one cylinder. Nails? How many, how much? No one has shown us anything, not even ONE nail, yet we're told the car was "packed" with them.

So, this guy had a car filled with explosive and schrapnel, wired and ready to go, yet was driving erratically, weaving, hitting trash cans...did he have a target or was he weaving to pick out a random blast point?

I'm not believing anything at this point. They've lied to us too many times, and they've offered nothing to back up any of the bullshit they've told us of this event, either. In fact, the second one has already been shown to be a false alarm, as I'm sure the third will too, now they realize how they over reacted to the first one.
