Personal Sicko distribution experience |
|
Buying tickets for tonight. Cobb Theaters in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida was scheduled to have it but their copy was pulled by the distributor -- i.e., the people paying Michael Moore -- and the only other decent viewing option is with the same chain but the next town over. This was not the chain's choice, this was the distributor's. According to the lady I spoke to, they said they reversed their decision and decided to go with a more limited distribution. WTF? It was coded in Fandango, on the movie websites and everything. This means that they already had a print ready for this theater and that represents $6k or so plus whatever other administrative expenses are involved. Any word on what the deal is?

1. Did the health care industry get to the distributor? |
|
That's the only thing I can think of.
How many will download it off the internet in frustration?

4. Well, I'm seeing it in the theater just to spike the numbers |
|
$20 for two adults is outrageous and I'd normally just download to protest. I figure boosting the opening weekend numbers is a better protest in this instance.
So, has anybody heard why they're pulling? This would be the height of dem-style wussitude to fund a deliberately antagonistic film like this and then buckle before the rage of the tyrants whose oxes are getting gored here. That's like congressional dems making a statement that might have a whiff, a hint of scrotal fortitude, then caving the moment a Puke says they're outrageous.

2. A lot of theatres were pulled |
|
on Wednesday. I'm not really sure why.
We had, I think 4 or 5 theatres here in Durham and Raleigh, but now are down to two smaller theatres in Chapel Hill and Cary.

3. If there was interference by "interests" associated with the insurance industry, then |

this is reminiscent of William Randolph threatening movie theaters not to show "Citizen Kane" via his newspapers.

Shit, you'd think that this sort of reaction should be anticipated and banked on as part of the promotional publicity. "THIS IS THE MOVIE THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO SEE!"
