Breaking...Rep. Ellison has signed House Resolution 333 to impeach Cheney
ImpeachforPeace.org
by Mikael Rudolph with Jodin Morey

June 29, 2007
An aide called www.ImpeachforPeace.org from the offices of Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) this morning saying that Rep. Ellison has signed House Resolution 333 as authored by Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) calling for impeachment hearings to commence against Vice President Dick Cheney.

Members of ImpeachforPeace had met with Rep. Ellison in April at which time he had said that "Impeachment Should Be on the Table", but that he needed to hear from his consituents before cosigning the impeachment bill authored by his friend Dennis Kucinich (D-OH).

Can you imagine scandal after scandal after scandal coming out every week, every two weeks, this one, that one? It will collapse the administration. That’s why the injunction is not being lifted. There is no reason for Judge Kessler at this point in time, in my opinion, to be continuing this injunction. The ban should be lifted and I should be free to release those records en masse at this moment.

But because of the fact that once these records are released en masse to a multitude of responsible investigators and journalists, be they independents or mainstream, the truth will be gotten to. And in those records there are probably twenty, thirty, fifty, a hundred, possibly more Randall Tobiases, Dick Morrises, Harlan Ullman -- and yes, the name Dick Cheney has been touted on more than one occasion. In those records. Can you imagine? It will be Watergate times all those people.

It would be interesting to see approval ratings for legislators after they sign. I suspect it might go up, not likely they are hurt by it.

26. I actually like his "talk to my constituents" answer
After all, he is the representative of the people. And as a rep, he should be promoting what his constituents promote. I wish more reps were like that.

29. It's about time. . .

Perhaps he actually listened to himself, and "heard" how assinine he sounded. Although I still doubt he "gets" that impeachment is a political process, not a legal process. http://journals.democraticunderground.com/pat_k/20">Lobbying for Impeachment: Take along a Big "Clue Stick" !

The fact he's on the Judiciary Committee is a big plus.

Will Ellison pursue impeachment? Not for now, he says
Impeachment backers want him to use his spot on the Judiciary Committee to pursue action against the president.
By Rob Hotakainen

WASHINGTON - If campaign talk means anything, there would be at least one sure vote on the House Judiciary Committee to impeach President Bush if the matter ever came up.

It would come from freshman Democratic Rep. Keith Ellison, the Minneapolis lawyer and former state legislator who got a plum assignment when he was named to the storied House panel this month.

At a rally in Loring Park in October, Ellison said Bush "has been running amok" and needs to be reined in: "There is one way that you can truly hold this president accountable, and it's impeachment.". . .

Ellison's appointment to the Judiciary Committee, which has jurisdiction over impeachment, has brought applause from the president's fiercest critics. . .

Ellison, who introduced a pro-impeachment resolution in the Minnesota Legislature last year, received a $1,000 contribution from ImpeachPAC and is the group's only endorsed congressional candidate who won election in 2006. . .

At the rally in Minneapolis, Ellison said it was time to "send the message to this Bush character that we're not going to have it anymore." He said that impeachment "would be a major undertaking and it would dominate the headlines for a long time" but that it was the right course.

Since taking office on Jan. 4, Ellison has not made impeachment an issue. Last week he joked that he's still learning where the bathrooms and cafeterias are located. But he said that he's backing proposals to fully investigate Bush and that "a little more homework needs to be done" before Congress can move to impeach.

"I'm a lawyer, you know. I don't think due process is just for some people, it's for all people, including the president."

Ellison said Congress must take its time. "These things are fluid," he said. "You know, these things have to take shape. ... The bottom line is we're going to have to let this thing run its proper and due course."

Given that War Crimes were confirmed by SCOTUS in Hamdan, you'd think that would be all the "due process" anyone could want. Let's hope he is begining to see the simple truth that has been obscured by illegitimate legalistic excuses for inaction.
