"GB is a lovely man, from a lovely, patriotic family" N. Pelosi
On Charlie Rose yesterday, Nancy Pelosi said that, and that GB's only problem is that he is "oblivious."

94. I don't but I remember what a big flap it caused. So, I'm guessing
that Nancy took the hit for the meme and that it got repeated. Sorry, can't do better. I found this but there's no attribution:

It's Official! Google Declares Bush is a 'Miserable Failure
06-Dec-03
Bush Failure

"A search for the phrase 'miserable failure' on the popular search engine Google brings up the biography of George W. Bush on the official White House Web site, in one of the more prominent search-engine manipulations with political overtones. The phrase appears nowhere in the bio. But computer users rigged the search engine results by posting the phrase on Web pages and linking it to the Bush bio, in a technique called Google bombing. 'I thought it was absolutely one of the funniest ideas I've ever heard,' said Don Waller, owner of Don Waller Interactive, a Web design company in Islip Terrace and a blogger who joined the prank in late October. 'I just decided to jump in with it.' 'This is just one of those spontaneous things that a blogger will post something and other bloggers will say, 'This is a great idea.'" Try it yourself by clicking below!

38. It was a bit more than war profiteering, and it didn't end with gramps either
It was directly financing Hitler's rise to power, and without the aid of Brown Bros. Harriman, it is questionable that Hitler would have even risen to power. And let's not overlook Poppy's enabling the cause of world wide facism. One has but to look at Central America in the eighties to see that. And isn't it almost every day now, from the Patriot Act until this very day that we all notice an ongoing rise of fascist policies in this country, under this administration? Come now, stop being so gullible.

And no, I'm not a big fan of the man nor his family. However Ted Kennedy hasn't funneled fascist thinking into his policies and politics, merely corporatism, which all of our so called leaders suffer from to a greater or lesser extent. The Bushs however seem to have a very large fascist streak that run throughout their family.

76. From Wiki:
In 1938, Roosevelt appointed Kennedy as the United States Ambassador to the Court of St. James's (Britain). Kennedy's Irish and Catholic status did not bother the British; indeed he hugely enjoyed his leadership position in London society, which stood in stark contrast to his outsider status in Boston. His daughter Kathleen married the heir to the Duke of Devonshire, the head of one of England's grandest aristocratic families. Kennedy rejected the warnings of Winston Churchill that compromise with Nazi Germany was impossible; instead he supported Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain's policy of appeasement in order to stave off a second world war that would be a more horrible "armageddon" than the first. Throughout 1938, as the Nazi persecution of Jews intensified, Kennedy attempted to obtain an audience with Adolf Hitler.<4> Shortly before the Nazi aerial bombing of British cities began in September 1940, Kennedy sought a personal meeting with Hitler, again without State Department approval, "to bring about a better understanding between the United States and Germany."<5>

Kennedy was (for a while) a close friend with the leading Jewish lawyer Felix Frankfurter, who helped Kennedy get his sons into the London School of Economics, where they worked with Harold Laski, a leading Jewish intellectual and prominent Socialist.<7> While holding positive attitudes towards individual Jews, Kennedy's views of the Jews as a people were, by his own admission, overwhelmingly negative.

According to Harvey Klemmer, who served as one of Kennedy's embassy aides, Kennedy habitually referred to Jews as "kikes or sheenies." Kennedy allegedly told Klemmer that " individual Jews are all right, Harvey, but as a race they stink. They spoil everything they touch."<8> When Klemmer returned from a trip to Germany and reported the pattern of vandalism and assault on Jews by Nazis, Kennedy responded "well, they brought it on themselves."<9>

On June 13, 1938, Kennedy met with Herbert von Dirksen, the German ambassador in London, who reported to Berlin that Kennedy had told him that "it was not so much the fact that we want to get rid of the Jews that was so harmful to us, but rather the loud clamor with which we accompanied this purpose. himself fully understood our Jewish policy."<10> Kennedy's main concern with such violent acts against German Jews as Kristallnacht was that they generated bad publicity in the West for the Nazi regime, a concern he communicated in a letter to Charles Lindbergh.<11>
Kennedy had a close friendship with Nancy Astor, who shared (and perhaps surpassed) his hatred of the Jews; the correspondence between them is replete with anti-Semitic tropes.<12> As Edward Renehan notes:

As fiercely anti-Communist as they were anti-Semitic, Kennedy and Astor looked upon Adolf Hitler as a welcome solution to both of these "world problems" (Nancy's phrase).... Kennedy replied that he expected the "Jew media" in the United States to become a problem, that "Jewish pundits in New York and Los Angeles" were already making noises contrived to "set a match to the fuse of the world."<13>

11. Lovely patriotic family???
Grandpa funded Hitler. (How do your AIPAC buddies justify that, by the way??)
Daddy killed all those "bad" liberals in the 60s, and practically invented modern "terrorism" (Not to mention the drug trade)
Brother Neil swindled a bunch of people out of their life savings.
Brother Marvin had the WTC security stand down while workers fixed the "sprinkler system" (with explosive charges which were used to bring the towers down)
Brother Jeb fixed the 2000 election.

Yeah, what a bunch of "patriots".

Nancy, if you believe that, you're as useless as they are.

I'm sure you think it's a nice strategy but for Bush to be "pricked" (as you say), the person doing it has to have some balls.

What kind of a man decides to run for the most important world leadership position on the planet & allows himself to become "oblivious"? Did he really think he could leave all the tough stuff to Dummy & Rummy & vacation in Crawford 3 months per year?

Does the first-ever female Speaker of the House, leader of the opposition party, honestly see this as the "only problem" of a "lovely man"? There are over 3000 American soldiers from "lovely, patriotic families" who are permanently oblivious. And hundreds of thousands of "lovely" Iraqis who would pay money to afford the luxury of "oblivious".

That statement shows how "oblivious" Mrs. Speaker is herself. Good grief, we're surrounded. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I'm reading all these pathetic excusing comments of her backers here and thinking, um, how about just being politely honest and saying, "well, this is by far the worst run administration I've ever seen or read about, and it's unimportant if he's a nice guy when his decisions put our troops in harm's way for no reason and our citizen's rights are ignored by the gov't spying on them illegally"

sigh... we're surrounded... We need men like Feingold, Kerry, and women like Boxer to standup and speak that this traitorous leader needs to be impeached immediately. Do they not see his continuing pattern to dictatorial leanings coming right at them? They're destroying the constitution!

19. well, think of what she didn't say
Pelosi might have said Bush can make tough decisions. Or that he's a man of principle. Or that he has the best interests of the country at heart, even if she disagrees with him about how to pursue them.

But none of those are even remotely accurate, so she called him "lovely."

Technically, it's a compliment, but it's not much of one.

I know lots of people from a "lovely, patriotic, family" who are oblivious. They make nice secretaries, cashiers, musicians, taxi drivers, or dogcatchers. But, I doubt that I would want any of them to be president, though most of them would be more able than the boob now infesting the White House.

I don't know if you were referencing my post (#37) specifically, but I occasionally post like this, "ironically," when there is a DU Frenzy over something trivial.

Being "nice" to one's enemies is extremely unnerving. It's a shame that when we do it, it unnerves so many people in our own camp.

Courage isn't marching 200,000 men off to their possible deaths for spite. Courage isn't staying on vacation and playing guitar and eating cake while hundreds DROWN. Courage isn't telling the military to torture captives of his false war.

think about ALL that he's done... how he didn't get-elected elected? all the comment he's made about how "nope, no WMD's here! none under there!", and the mocking comments of anyone - like the blind reporter he mocked for wearing his "sunglasses? it's not sunny out!" at the press conference in Cali, and all the shitty comments and decisions he's made..

to hear her kiss his butt and hear Obama say impeachment is only used for "grave" errors makes me question if they're on our side at all.

PLEASE AL - join in! PLEASE WES - join in!

I only feel that Kucinich totally gets it, and I believe Edwards gets a lot of it, but the rest - ladies and gentlemen, I don't know if they get it at ALL after these current comments of capitulation and arse kissing!

might be a portion of a nightmare. It sure got my attention. WTF was she thinking?

But, believe it or not, there are those on DU who would proudly display a document in their home with chimp's signature and title on it. I was read the riot act by more than one poster when I expressed disgust that my daughter's recent academic award was marred, and in my opinion devalued, by the war criminal POS's pawprint. I sure as hell wouldn't display a plaque signed by Manson, and Bush is certainly no better - and, in terms of numbers dead - he's worse.

The Good Cop and the Bad Cop are on the same team and in the same employ. R's and D's aren't in serious opposition, it's a dog & pony show to maintain the illusion that we prisoners aren't in jail. The past 16 years are proof positive. Past time to clean house, seriously clean house.

Don't pay me no mind, I must be crazy, eh? Just chill, turn on the tv, or the Wee, gobble some mood modifiers, yammer on the internet. You are getting sleepy......

131. OK I listened to the whole thing....bummer
yes, she said he is 'a lovely person from a lovely patriotic family.' Her tone was condescending and she followed it with a list of ways in which he is "oblivious." But STILL she DID say exactly this. (damn)

She also said, "it's not his personality, it's his policy." This is doublespeak HMO. Personalities create policies. I think she's verbally confusing being "personable" with personality. The chimp is obviously a conflicted, narcissistic, deranged character. He has a serious personality DISORDER. This leads to a total disconnect from the implications of his ruthless and radical policies.

I want to think that Pelosi's gambit is a "kill em with kindness" or "confuse a cat" strategy. I can't believe she thinks he's a lovely person. She just tells dangerous pathological Narcissists what they want to hear. A lot of times people (unconsciously or not) try to mollify such a person who is in a position of great power. This assures the tyrant that they can maintain their dignity while she plots their undoing. At least I hope this is the case with Pelosi. I HOPE she is biding her time for GOOD reason. She IS trying...I do believe that.

However she should at least be challenged on this. Nancy, please explain your choice of words, because there's no way your supporters can rationalize such a bizarre statement.

This is a problem for Pelosi. She needs to address it.

134. This needs a kick; it's the only thread I know of on this topic on either
GD or GD-Politics, which is surprising given that for a while there seemed to be a new thread every minute on the subject of John Edwards' hair.

This is a small thing, granted, but a telling detail. I don't know if Pelosi thinks this is still the Tip O'Neill era when people in congress would disagree and then go have a beer afterwards, but she comes across as stunningly clueless on this point. And this wouldn't necessarily be a big deal, except that she's seemed clueless on so many other points as well.

138. Are you sure this wasn't from The Onion?
Bush family = lovely? Patriotic? Come on, they're a bunch of lying, murderous criminal fuckers who only care about lining their own pocketbooks. They don't care about the average American.
