An old, old short story.
Wondering if anyone recalls this short story, it's name and author. I read it....maybe 20 years ago, give or take.

Set in the USA of the future, polling has become such an exact science that the 'average voter' has been perfectly defined. At presidential election time, the figures are run and one person is selected on behalf of all Americans, to cast the vote that chooses the president.....

3. Frederick Forsythe's name keeps coming to mind
and the anthology 'No Comebacks', but I don't think this is right.

9. Sounds familiar: no wait -- in that story there were nine of them who got to cast the vote.
And they voted 5-4.

Let's see: wasn't it called Election 2000, or something?

10. I read a lot of Asimov when I was younger,
and was about to suggest his name as a starting point but was beaten to the punch. Ah well, glad to see I'm not the only one. :P
