Radio Host Mike Webb Found Dead

Body identified as that of missing radio host, sister says
By KOMO Staff

SEATTLE -- The sister of Mike Webb on Friday confirmed to KOMO that the body found under a tarp inside a Queen Anne home is that of former KIRO radio personality Mike Webb.

Marian Bagni said Seattle police informed her of the identification earlier in the day.

Police said the owner of the house in the 2000 block of 3rd Avenue West found the body on Thursday afternoon. Mike Webb had been living in the rental home until he disappeared in April.

Webb was last seen on April 13th and has been reported missing. Assistant Police Chief Nick Metz Metz said Webb's family and friends, as well as police officers had been to his house in recent weeks. He said how and when the Webb died is still a mystery.

"The only thing we can classify right now is a suspicious death," Metz said on Thursday.

The property owner, David Neth, said he found the body while clearing out a crawl space in the home. He said the body was underneath a blue tarp, and he immediately called police.

3. How can a landlord go in to clear out a crawl space
without notifying the tennants first? Granted, you can post a notice on the prem, but this is very weird.

6. Well, the tenant had been missing for a few months now.
Maybe he waited until the lease expired?
Or got permission from the family?

Just not enough info there to guess yet.

12. No one had heard from him since April; there was a notice on the
door that the rent had to be paid, or the premises vacated. I don't know the exact wording of the law about landlords being able to enter a rental place, but I would think that after several months, the landlord would want to get in there and see what was going on.

Odd way to commit suicide, being able to cover up everything after you crawl into a space. I hope they figure out who did it.

28. So why were the computers never siezed and examined by the cops?
Edited on Fri Jun-29-07 11:19 PM by ConsAreLiars
That is routine when someone vanishes., isn't it? Or maybe only for rich white girls? Webb was definitely no friend of the Seattle Police Department. He had taken them to court for harassment and gotten more back in return. It is no stretch of the imagination to think the "dicks" assigned to the case just said "Good, glad he's gone" and tossed the file into the "who gives a fuck" drawer.

Damn. I know the landlord also. David Neth was the realtor who 20 years ago helped me find the house I live in. He was recommended by friends for his social conscience and integrity.

Thanks for the link.

9. Folks had searched the house
A number of people had been in the house since Webb’s disappearance, including his brother and the police.

None of them, however, noticed the body in the basement.

16. I know...my brother didn't call in to work for ONE day
and his supervisor was on it. He called the property manager of the apartment building my brother lived in. That person then called the police. The cops gained entry wherein they found my brother in his bedroom, dead of what eventually was determined to be an overdose of elavil.

It is the policy of where I work that if one doesn't call in the immediate supervisor is to try and make contact. If contact is not made then the cops or someone is sent over to the address on record in the employee's file.

I think that's a pretty good policy.

one of my favorite radio hosts in Seattle; I listened to him all the time. He pulled no punches, he spoke his mind, and he was a passionate activist.

RIP, Mike.

13. I don't think he wrapped himself in that rug
I didn't listen to him for very long, but his take on the world was something I could understand. He definitely had a voice for radio. I spent many night's falling asleep to his rant's. I think I listened to him for a year or so before he ever mentioned anything about being gay. Just proved to me that my gaydar isn't 100%. After seeing his pictures, he reminds me a lot of some of my old bud's. I remember tuning into his web stream after he was dumped from KIRO. I think it was pretty evident he'd gone over the edge. I hadn't heard about the insurance situation and other personal problems before then.

We'll miss you Mike,
you had a good heart from where I sit.

21. NOOOO!
Mike lived on the edge.

I used to tune him in late at night on KIRO in Seattle from an undisclosed location 180 miles south.

He was an excellent but troubled talk show host.

I'm bummed.

I wonder if he got Alan Berg'd.

24. I had no idea he was missing...I found him back when liberal talk shows were scarce...
I am in shock. He was my savior on-line when I thought there was no sanity left in this country. He was the 1st radio talk show host I found on-line when I was so desperatley searching for someone to remind me I wasnt living in the twilight zone. I had'nt listen to him for a while. Air America, Bernie Ward, Stephanie Miller...and I can't leave out Randi Rhodes...all came along and there were other choices. But, thank god for Mike Webb, at a time when I thought the world was going crazy. May he rest in peace. Thank you Mike Webb.

31. update: Webb was stabbed to death
http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/321845_webb30.html

As a radio talk show host, Mike Webb made his name by bringing a righteous, raging passion for politics to his late-night broadcasts.

At 52 years old, Webb met his end at the hands of someone whose rage was broadcast through a blade.

Webb's body was found Thursday hidden in a crawl space of his Queen Anne neighborhood home, and it was identified Friday by the King County Medical Examiner's Office. Though the remains were badly decayed -- Webb had been missing for two months -- investigators were able to determine he'd been stabbed repeatedly by his killer.

Especially when he got into music. I think it was last July 4th when he played a spectacular spectrum of American music. He really appreciated diversity, I thought, and he had a playful way with sarcasm.

DAMN
