Brownback Writes of 'Hatred' of Clintons
WASHINGTON (AP) - Sam Brownback says he harbored a "hatred" of Bill and Hillary Rodham Clinton until he experienced a religious awakening in the mid-1990s.

Brownback, a Republican presidential hopeful, details in a new book how the change in outlook led him to make a stunning apology to Hillary Clinton a few years later during a Senate prayer breakfast.

"I was considering what I should say when I confronted all the anger that I held for the Clintons," the Kansas senator writes in the book, "From Power to Purpose: A Remarkable Journey of Faith and Compassion."

"I thought, I hate them for what they are doing to the country and I feel justified in hating them for it," he writes.

(snip)

He told the prayer breakfast audience that he used to have a "hatred for Bill and Hillary" because of their politics. He spotted Sen. Clinton in the crowd and, speaking directly to her, said he "realized that those thoughts of hatred were wrong. I apologized to her for them. I don't know what she thought, but I believe it made a difference."

4. Yet I'm sure he couldn't name a single thing either of them did
to inspire such rage.

The truth is that most Clinton haters did so because they were given permission to, either from church or party.

6. Exactly. From the moment Lee Atwater pegged him as the
'rising star' of the Democratic Party he was demonized.

I'll never forget sitting at Black, Manafort and Stone with some of the most rabid republicans to walk the face of the earth.

Their hatred of WJC was palpable. Unsettling to say the least.

9. Truth be known...
It's unlikely much has changed. He has just found a new way to express himself on the matter.

The Clintons are the right's bete' noire. They likely could not be where they are today without them and they know it.

After all, everyone has their own Moriarty.

14. LOL! So he gets to express his hatred for the Right's favorite target--applause!--
Edited on Fri Jun-29-07 05:30 PM by wienerdoggie
and then tries to show the fundies how Christ-like he is, with his righteous prayerful change of heart and his unprovoked "apology" to the enemy--STANDING OVATION!

edit to add: What a complete fuck this guy is. AND a political coward--he changed his "yes" vote to a "no" on the immigration bill once it became clear it wasn't going to pass to cloture. You're right, Kansas--you SHOULD be ashamed!
