VFA has assembled a list of Rape crisis centers for female soldiers
http://www.veteransforamerica.org/moduleid/460
Women make up fifteen percent of the U.S. military.

One of every ten U.S. troops serving in Iraq is a woman.

More than 16,000 single mothers have served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Roughly one-third of female veterans who have sought counseling at the VA report having been the victim of rape or attempted rape during their service.

The Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs, already overburdened by casualties from Iraq and Afghanistan, are ill-equipped to provide the assistance that the victims of sexual assault and harassment need.

You're going to have people jumping on your for "insulting our male soldiers" an actual quote from DU. Rape apologists start your engines!

Edited to add that no matter the evidence a large proportion of Du'ers do not believe these first hand accounts and do everything they can to deny it's happening. Why any woman would want to serve in this military is beyond my comprehension. I have a few female cousins on active duty and the two officers (both naval doctors) have had no problems and neither has the one marine. The one in the army, however... it's not pretty what's going on in the military and the worst part, I think, is that it's hard to get people to believe it. More of the oh, no, we don't do that, we're the GOOD GUYS! Yeah, right.

3. Thanks for posting this
When my daughter was in the military, and stationed in Afghanistan, it didn't help to have another fear added on. Because it's always there you know? You're afraid she'll be raped by her own troops.

You don't tell HER that, she's a soldier, well traveled and used to the company of other soldiers. (At least my daughter, who is wise and canny beyond her years, she knew how to watch for herself--Sad that she had to, yes? And even so, "watching for herself" wouldn't have been enough when attacked) But that fear is there and you have to minimize it in the face of your daughter being in a combat zone. You want her home alive, dear God, You want her home alive. And you know there are rapists assholes out there. Because there always are.

5. Awfully late...the conditions must be dreadful for them to finally do this...
maybe some revelations coming down the pike. They've had YEARS to do this.
