"your concern is noted"
Can we stop using such blanket attack statements??? We are not here to attack each other, we are here to DEBATE.

When all you can say is "your concern is noted", why bother posting anything at all? It is an incredibly weak cop-out.

TRY ACTUALLY DEBATING AND USE FACTS AND REASON.

Im really sick of WEAK ATTACKS.

DU IS NOT ABOUT THAT, IT IS ABOUT DEBATING ISSUES AND EXCHANGING IDEAS WITH FACTS.

When your only reply is "your concern is noted", you are WEAKENING THE QUALITY OF DEBATE ON DU.

I suppose pointing out an irrelevant, non-offensive post will send this from mole-hill to mountain, just as quickly as anticipated. Nice work.

28. Where possible, yes. The inane bullshit is usually gameplaying by people doing it
for their own agenda, they know the truth and aren't interested in truth getting in the way of that agenda.

Those people make themselves obvious over time, and only succeed in outing themselves to the general membership here.

Edited on Sat Jun-30-07 11:03 AM by Solly Mack
Actual trolls are one thing - but the phrase "your concern is noted" is being used by non-trolls who don't like - or can't refute - what is being said in an attempt to paint other non-trolls as trolls.

It's meant to cast aspersions on the poster and be dismissive without offering up evidence.

45. but it's not very educational
a simple 'you're wrong' only demonstrates that the person saying it has a closed mind.

Granted, Republican talking points are usually wrong and lies, but a simple declaration 'that is a Republican talking point' does nothing to change the mind of a non-partisan person who has heard it and thinks 'hey, that's true and makes sense'.

And the terse statement here is not only 'you are wrong' it is 'you are a heretic' or 'you are a troll'. Trouble is that not every Democrat is part of the Michael Moore wing of the Party, to say nothing of the independents and moderate Republicans that we need to sway if we are going to win elections, at least here in red country. If truth is on the side of the more progressive, then we should be able to present that truth and refute the lies, not just close out, or cast out anybody who does not see things our way.

22. how can you have an intelligent debate with a right wing buffoon?
that's like trying to talk with a 5 year old about currency fluctuations and mortgage backed bonds and how they affect the destabilization of the dollar.

you need to have a worthwhile interlocutor.

sometimes, the very transparent trolls and disruptors are not worthy of that much respect.

18. We'll smoke 'em out! We're on the hunt!
Actually, I certainly don't have problems with K & R. Sometimes you just want to say "Amen" without adding anything substantive to the discussion. As for "your concern is noted," you're right: that is a milquetoast response. Of course, we all have to pick our battles and some people who post such things may want to make their opposition known but don't feel it's worth the effort to muster up a detailed rebuttal. If, for example, someone started a thread that said "There is nothing in the Bible that evolution can refute!", I'd be tempted to respond with "Your concern is noted."

As Twain once said (I believe it was Twain): "You can't reason someone out of something they weren't reasoned into in the first place."

15. minimum word counts would be a bad thing, given that six words changed the world:
"energy equals mass times velocity squared."

This thought revolutionized the world. What if there had been a 'minimum' count involved?

K&R is a system that kicks a thread that people think is important and others should read. The greatest serves that purpose too. It is a system that pushes the better arguments and debates to the forefront.

36. It's just a reference to a possible "concern troll" sighting maybe?
"Concern Trolls". Marginally more clever, they pretend at being progressive Democrats, but at every turn seem to suggest the most obviously damaging or boneheaded or offensive thing they can. These are easier to catch than you might imagine: since it hardly matters whether someone is an obvious concern troll or just an unmitigated idiot, sometimes it doesn't pay to think about it too hard.

Or maybe you'd prefer something in bold. Nothing says "bold statement quite like bold type" I always say.
