Of course, it has taken place more than 3000 miles away and no one knows WHO committed it but better get ready for one in a neighborhood near you!!!

You're not safe if you're not afraid, doncha' know!!!

2. The British have a lot of problems we don't have.
I suspect that the terrorism in Britain is homegrown. The discontent is pretty widespread. We don't have the same problems here at this time.

That was a poke in the eye to Islam.

24. Was Knighthood for Elton John a poke in the eye to straight people? Was Mick Jagger's knighthood
a poke in the eye to the young or people without hugely talented lips? Was Bill Gates knighthood a poke in the eye to people with good hair?

This is a fun game. I could go on for hours...

29. You may be on to something
I never even considered that these incidents are being done by straight, Rolling Stone hating Mac users. You do have to wonder don’t you.

Please try the fish.

19. Let me start by saying that I've lived there.
So, I'm basing this opinion on my experience of years ago. You have a society that sees itself as European, that cherishes its religious and political traditions -- including privileges and advantages you could not imagine for people of the "right" class and race, who talk "right," walk "right," eat "right," attend the "right" schools, marry "right" and raise their children to carry on the "right" tradition. The reality is that the UK is a society of immigrants from all over the world who do not fit the traditional British mold at all. There are a lot of misfits, a lot of people who are constantly reminded that they aren't "right." These are people whose parents or perhaps who themselves came to the UK either because they were pushed out elsewhere or to better themselves. Their dreams do not fit with the British view of themselves. That was my experience living there, and it was before the demographic changes that were beginning then had developed into the situation that now exists there. Our society is a lot more flexible. We tend to accept people who don't fit the traditional American mold a lot more readily. Schwarzenegger, for all his faults, is accepted as being an American although he does not "fit" at all with what many Americans view as the American puritanical traditions. In California, for example, being an immigrant is the norm. It's still a problem here, but not the problem it is in the United Kingdom. Our tradition is immigration. Immigration is not a part of the British myths about themselves. Therefore, imo, immigrants are a lot more angry in the UK.

25. Thanks for that. I've caught hints of discontent, but couldn't figure out why. We recently
visited there for the first time and absolutely loved it. London and Bath were awesome(Stonehenge was overrated imo.). Everyone was so nice. Made us want to live there.

31. I lived and worked there. Don't get me wrong. I love the British
(and all Europeans, but especially Americans). It's just that it is easy to feel that you are an outsider and that you will never belong in all of the European countries that I lived in, but especially in England (and maybe in France). It's not that the people aren't nice. It is that the culture defines itself very clearly by customs and traditions that simply aren't yours unless you are born to those customs and traditions. Pakistanis can pretty much be themselves here in the U.S. and, even though they are among the least accepted, they can still enjoy a niche and make their way in our society based on their authentic selves. Not so in England where your accent (at least when I was there) determines a lot. I knew people with Scottish accents who took lessons on how to sound more like the favorite accent of the British. It was the only way they could get the good jobs.

28. After thousands of years, you can well expect that Britain actually
has a defined culture, as France has a culture. The US, a babe at 226 years of age, is really a country of immigrants. What we are having now is an inevitable fight between the first immigrants vs. the latest immigrants.

Didn't Great Britain create its formula for disaster having a class system that even affects brits, and then opening a door to such diverse cultures in such a short period of time on such a small island?

30. Thanks for that.
I've grown up in Southern California, and, sometimes, I don't understand the next door neighbor's point-of-view. She's very role-conscious. Additionally, for some reason, she lets that loser of a husband of hers (born out here in SoCal) to make the outrageous put-downs of her. I'll never get it.

But I digress ...

Anyway, I've grown up with 'Undoc' friends, and all kinds of friends, and I don't really care particularly about anyone's ancestry ...

18. And in this case, the "problem" the British have
is a new Prime Minister who is not a Bush poodle. Curious how Glasgow was a target, considering Brown is Scottish.

What are they gonna do next, blow up poor old Nessie?

6. Remember WE ARE SAFE
bush and cheney told us that over and over when they said if we voted for republicans they would keep us safe. So why worry.

And just think, rudi is waiting in the wings. Didn't he keep New York safe by putting the same response team headquarters in the Twin Towers, exactly where they were attacked in 1993. And didn't the police and the firemen object to putting it there. Saying they wouldn't be able to respond in an emergency...but not to worry....rudi is bouncing his macho cause he is going to keep us safe

They must be really well-funded,...well, in cars, anyway. Can't say 40-50 gals of petrol plus a buncha' nails cost as much as the cars.

12. Funny. Bush loses on the immigration issue and then the UK gets attack
I'm not saying there is a connection but you have to wonder.

These UK terror attacks have pushed Bush's failure to get his immigration bill passed to the back of the newspapers.

Coincidence? Not Coincidence? You decide.

was destroyed. My neighbor owns a jeep. Do you think he might be a terrorist? I also understand that the two men driving the Jeep were Asian. There is an Asian family living less that a block from me. I am terrified and will be putting my house on the market next week. You can never be too careful.

Eurasia or East Asia, you can never tell these days. Best to keep on top of who the terra'ist du jour is. So let me get this straight... if someone blows up a car now, its good for at least a half to three days coverage in the news cycle? But only if chimpy's got some shitty news to cover up, correct?

Pakistan to Bangladesh.

However one rumor has it that an Iraqi was involved; then again, Iraq's in Asia, even though the word doesn't usually cover the Middle East.
