14. Can't watch. Very sad.
This computer I'm running is a g3 iMac running Xubuntu. That particular configuration hates Flash/Shockwave. Whereas, I might be able to see it if I could find a direct Windows Media Player feed, unfortunately the player console on the MSNBC won't even load without browser plugins I simply can't use. I sure wish C-Span were airing this as a public service.

Anybody got any links to alternative streams for Live Earth?

IE Tab, an extension from Taiwan, embeds Internet Explorer in a Mozilla/Firefox tab.

This extension is derived from the famous extension IE View, but much different.
While IE View always open IE-only pages in a seperate Internet Explorer window,
IE Tab can view them in a Mozilla/Firefox tab.

Edited on Fri Jul-06-07 09:08 PM by BattyDem
The crowd in front looks great ... but further back, it looks a little thin. Unless ... there's some sort of path on the floor and the camera is not pulling back beyond that. I've seen the path in the middle of the floor at many concerts - it's usually in front of the sound board/"control room" platform - so that could be it.

What is this STUPID shot showing the entire stage from way the freak back -- people watching online can't see what is on the damn screens. Dumb, dumb, dumb decision. They showed Al's intro up close so they must have that capability.

90. Honestly,
that's just a shitty line-up of bands. Convictions aside, I wouldn't attend a concert with that selection of music. In fact, most of the Live Earth line-up is inconsequential pop, middle-of-the-road-radio-friendly garbage, and really-trying-too-hard world beat. The Wembley line-up and parts of the Giants Stadium line-up look good, but for the most part it's terribly uninspiring.

I've never captured streaming video, so I don't know what to recommend. Ask on the Computer Help and Support forum - someone may be able to help. If not, Google "capture streaming video" or "capture windows media video" and you should find something. A lot of programs offer free demos, but you may not be able to capture more than 5 or 10 minutes with a demo version.

107. Some simple Live Earth goals:

I PLEDGE:
1.To demand that my country join an international treaty within the next 2 years that cuts global warming pollution by 90% in developed countries and by more than half worldwide in time for the next generation to inherit a healthy earth;

2.To take personal action to help solve the climate crisis by reducing my own CO2 pollution as much as I can and offsetting the rest to become "carbon neutral;"

3.To fight for a moratorium on the construction of any new generating facility that burns coal without the capacity to safely trap and store the CO2;

4.To work for a dramatic increase in the energy efficiency of my home, workplace, school, place of worship, and means of transportation;

5.To fight for laws and policies that expand the use of renewable energy sources and reduce dependence on oil and coal;

6.To plant new trees and to join with others in preserving and protecting forests; and,

7.To buy from businesses and support leaders who share my commitment to solving the climate crisis and building a sustainable, just, and prosperous world for the 21st century.

I came across this info via Google. I don't know if it will solve your problem, but it has worked for many people, so it's worth a shot.

In Windows Media Player:

Select tools > options > performance tab > advanced

Uncheck the "use video mixing renderer" box in the video acceleration section.

I hope this helps! :hi:

138. Nunatak....from Wikipedia
Nunatak is the British Antarctic Survey’s Rothera Research Station’s house band. The five person indie rock band is part of a science team investigating climate change and evolutionary biology on the Antarctic Peninsula<1>. On 7 July 2007 as part of Live Earth, Nunatak will play to a sell out crowd of 17 (the entire population of the BAS research station Rothera<2>) and will make up the Seventh Continent contingent of the Live Earth concert.

Lead singer Matt Balmer, 22, said of the event that the band "expected to spend our Antarctic winter here at Rothera quietly getting on with our work and maybe performing at the occasional Saturday night party. We could never have imagined taking part in a global concert." <3>

The band's name is derived from the Greenlandic word for a mountain top protruding from a glacier. Originally the band had named itself after a disease previously common to Punta Arenas roughly translated to "Ratchet Death" but felt that the pronunciation of that name was less than politically correct.

139. They won't be live, however. From NPR:
The concert will kick off outdoors — in temperatures expected to be about 10 degrees below zero Celsius — on a stage at Rothera station's airstrip. Then, the band will move to what Thorne describes as a "very popular venue known as the 'sledge stall.'"

Thorne is rather sanguine about the event: "We're playing to a sellout audience of 17 people, which is the entire complement of the Rothera base, so it's as much of a success on Adelaide Island as it possibly can be. Intimacy is, and always has been, one of the band's main attractions."

Because of the difficulties of broadcasting from Antarctica, only those 17 devoted fans will be able to watch Nunatak's live show.

However, video of the band from an earlier show will be available at Live Earth on MSN.

I'd love to know the original name for the band.

Musically, they sound quite good, if unoriginal.

Vocally, that guy blows dead donkeys.

155. Oh man, I wanted to see those guys. Bummer.
What time did they play?

I wanted to see Shakira too, but I went to bed after the Australia and most of the Japan shows were over.

159. I was in Germany in January, they are so far ahead of us on this issue...
...is just embarrassing. Everywhere you look while driving through the open countryside you see Wind farms with dozens of massive turbines. That was probably the first thing I noticed on my trip.

160. I saw Al :D
this morning :D
It was a crowded mess at the museum though, I had to take a nap when I got back and I still have a headache.
I haven't seen any of the other Live Earth stuff but maybe it'll be saved for us to look at, I hope.
