The Latest From Traffic Enforcement: "Stop Sign Cameras"
California: Stop Sign Cameras Installed on Canyon Roads
A California park agency will ticket motorists with stop sign cameras July 9. Speed cameras to follow.

The Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA) has installed the first-ever automated camera in the US designed to ticket drivers who make "boulevard stops" or slow to a crawl at a stop sign without fully ceasing forward motion. The little-known agency will begin issuing $100 fines next Monday, July 9, at Franklin Canyon in the heart of Los Angeles, located off of Mulholland Drive and at the top of Topanga.

The stop sign devices are based on red light camera platforms, but they differ greatly in use. The more familiar stoplight cameras typically photograph a vehicle entering an intersection if a signal light changes to red between 0.1 and 0.3 seconds after the car crosses a stop bar line (view recent report). With the new stop sign cameras, a machine will make calculations to determine whether a vehicle did not stop for a long enough period and deserves a fine.

1. Everybody needs to challenge every ticket, every time, and shut these fuckers down
by clogging up "the system," which only works under the assumption of a certain amount of unquestioning "cooperation..."

2. This shit has to stop!
I am always so pissed when someone doesn't stop and pulls out in front of me but never have I been pissed enough to want cameras watching our every move. There is a real line to draw here. Nothing is safe in this life. Do we chance it and live it or do we shiver in fear and beg to have all the "spookies" taken care of for us? Jesus I have had it with this shit. I don't like having to stop after I have checked out of the grocery and take everything back out so some bozo can make sure that in the 20 feet between the cashier and him I have not pocketed something. WHAT? There is nothing there to pocket and if you did the security cameras that are all over the damned place would see it. There is no reason for that except to get us used to being watched constantly and having our every move judged by a camera or some jerk who has to watch and decide if we are out of line or not.

**Rant off**

3. But think of the children!
Yes, :sarcasm:

Fight every ticket every time.

If you're a passenger, sue the state for invasion of privacy.

Use cameras for laser-pointer target practice.

These things are the new Panopticon. They have to be stopped.

4. I would never, ever, suggest...
that mud, birdshit, and other such naturally occuring impediments to optical usefulness are not always in enough supply naturally.

Nor would I suggest paintball battles at intersections with stop signs.

5. Bottom line on this crap
is that its creative taxation, the local politicos know that people are fed up with ever increasing property taxes so they keep dreaming up new revenue streams. Of course its in the name of "safety", and it frees up police officers to do more important tings. :sarcasm:

7. We are going to end up like Londoners with cameras everywhere if this keeps up.
I do not want the entire US to resemble that.
