Democratic Presidents guided us through WW I, WW II, & Korea successfully
Republican Presidents failed us in Vietnam and Iraq, so how can any Republican say with a straight face Republicans are better at protecting America?
Also here is how a real President addressed the situation of War
"I have called the Congress into extraordinary session because there are serious, very serious, choices of policy to be made, and made immediately, which it was neither right nor constitutionally permissible that I should assume the responsibility of making." Woodrow Wilson

1. Ike ended Korea
while Truman deserves massive credit both for saving South Korea and for keeping McArthur reined in, Ike did finish the war with a threat to nuke China.

2. because
they have a hard time accepting reality. All you got to do is watch CNN's Situation Room. Every last one of them always tend to place blame on the Democrats.

4. While I don't believe Vietnam was a just cause the USA did give it's word it would protect those peo
I resent the fact that we went back on our word to those people. They are a good and decent people, but as it turned out they have done just fine without US intervention. I still think it was very wrong to go back on our word to come to their aid if needed..Vietnam was in no way like the situation in Iraq..

8. Never claimed to be an expert on anything
I mingled a lot with the people. They talked a lot about their government and their fears. I never talked to any government officials. They may have had a different view of things. I am only speaking about how the general population felt about the issue. I spent two tours there and traveled throughout the country. It was a universal sentiment virtually everywhere I went.. They are a very good and decent people and I enjoyed being with them..

9. Saying "Nixon got the US out" kind of glosses over a lot of stuff
Like the fact that Nixon said he had a "secret plan" to end the war in 1968 and still, *still*, didn't get us out until 1973. That's four years of Nixon's control during which the war continued. Those four years saw increasing attempts to win the war through airpower and the expansion of the war into Cambodia on multiple occasions. Nixon is hardly a good guy in the Vietnam scenario.

10. nixon is no hero in my book, but eventually even he saw the writing on the wall and pulled the plug
but the premise of the thread is that the repooks 'failed' in viet nam but it was dem presidents that got the US waist deep in the big muddy.
