Lindsey Graham: Escalation ‘Is Working Beyond My Expectations’
Lindsey Graham: Escalation ‘Is Working Beyond My Expectations’

At least 105 killed in Iraq village blast

KIRKUK, Iraq (AFP) - At least 105 people were killed Saturday when a suicide truck bomb devastated a crowded Iraqi village market and demolished many homes, the top local security, administrative and health officials said.

Ambulances and private cars ferried dozens of bloodied corpses and wounded civilians to clinics in the nearby town of Tuz Khurmatu and the provincial capital Kirkuk, where desperate relatives waited for news of the missing.

Lieutenant Colonel Saman Hamid, commander of the security coordination centre in nearby Tuz Khuramtu, told AFP that a suicide bomber had detonated a powerful bomb on board a brick truck in the village of Emerli.

"105 Iraqis were killed and five are missing, we have registered their names. There are more than 250 wounded," he said. The casualty toll was confirmed by Dr Wissam Abdullah, director of the main local hospital.

3. proving that our pols still don't understand the dynamics of a guerrilla war
sure, you flood Baghdad with troops, and secure a few square blocks. The moment you pull the troops away from those blocks, the Iraqis return. It's the most basic concept of guerrilla warfare, and our 'leaders' are too brain dead to realize even that. :eyes:

the surge is a success.

Without a doubt, it compounds the atrocities against the Iraqi people and the troops themselves.

The only way it could be regarded as "succeeding" is in draining the Treasury, deepening our indebtedness, filling the cemeteries, enriching the purveyors of death and destruction, and earning this country the deep enmity of decent people all over the world.

12. ''clear. hold and build'' has a flaw --
the insurgents are mobile -- and they can wait.

unless the world has some ''marshall plan'' in it's back pocket -- that it's going to whip out at some point -- alleviating poverty and despair and bringing true equality to every day folk -- then the insurgents can continue ad nauseum.

bushco -- you have failed and you will continue to fail.

16. Let's break down "Clear, Hold, and Build"...
Clear:
The insurgents are mobile. They come, they go.
SO, "Clear" accomplishes as much as slicing your soup.

Hold:
We sent 1/4 the troops the experts said "holding"
would require. We don't have enough to "hold" much more
than our own bases and the Green Zone.

SO, "Holding" anything NEW means letting go of something else.
See above; "slicing soup".

Build:
Nothing can be "built" without a foundation.
See above; "clear" and "hold"

17. we need a srious discussion of ''clear, build and hold'' here.
one of the purposes of any state is to make the bad guys pay with truly impressive fire power and determination.

it can certainly be argued that we have never intended to be that force in iraq. rumsfeld even said as much --

and it certainly can't be that the geniuses in the pentagon don't know that basic precept.

things are flawed at an extraordinary level -- and one really does have wonder about our safety even in the hands of ''good guys'' i.e. away from republicans.

there is a breathtaking amount of incomtence afoot in places where there just shouldn't be any.

13. Lindsey is spot on, for success is defined as
the transferance of wealth on an unprecendented scale, (3 trillion for the DoD alone in the last 6 years) and the killing of as many Iraqi unpersons as possible.
