At times like these, we need Zell.
Can you believe this is REALLY what I found in my morning paper? I wrote a ltte in response to this lunatic suggestion! Here's a few clips from his article, but you really need to read the whole thing.
the really frightening thing is that there are most likely many people here in Ga. that agree with him!

I wish to say a word about the current crop of people running for president of the United States. The word is "ugh!"

(snip)

I'd like to be able to sleep soundly at night thinking there was a dynamic, clear-eyed, don't-tread-on-me-or-I'll-kick-your-fanny-to-the-moon kind of leader with his or her hand on the red phone. Somebody who would tell Congress in no uncertain terms to quit posturing and go to work, and who would let the terrorists know in 50 words or less that they had better start rounding up the 47 virgins, or whatever they believe they will find awaiting them in heaven, because if they keep running their mouths, they are going to see them sooner rather than later.

(snip)

Well, I have the answer. I am starting a "draft Zell Miller for president" campaign. Remember, you read it here first. The man is such a natural for the job, I am surprised that nobody thought of it before I did, but being smarter than the average bear is why I get the big bucks. Besides, just the mention of his name as a presidential candidate would make a couple of people I know apoplectic. That alone would be worth the effort.

(snip)

Miller would be the only candidate who wouldn't suck up to the media bullies. He once threatened to beat up one of those smirky liberal cable guys on national television and could have done it, too. Remember, he is a Marine. He could probably whip the entire staff of The New York Times. If he did, that would get him more votes from grateful Americans than all the rest of the candidates combined.

1. Because, really.
Who needs a plan for health care? We'll just kick the doctors' asses!

Who needs a plan to combat global warming? We'll kick mother nature's ass!

Terrorism? We'll kick some ass so we can find out who they are, and then we'll kick their asses, too!

Congress "out of line"? Kick their ass!

Seriously, all the world's problems end the minute you get a president that knows how to kick some ass. After all, you see how well it worked for W.

9. Unemployed people? Kick their asses.
Too many sick people needing health care? Kick their asses until they get better. Anyone facing bankruptcy or foreclosure? Nothing a good ass-kicking won't fix. Just follow along the Dr. Laura and Judge Judy approach, and everything wrong with America will be fixed.

12. Well, Dr. Phil thinks everybody's problems can be solved...
...by being yelled at and belittled on national television. If the ass-kicking doesn't work, we could always try that.

Zell Miller should be institutionalized, if he isn't already.

4. Scary.
I've been thinking the last few days that these times are ripe for a demagogue. We're lucky one hasn't come along yet. That's why I can't join in any criticism of the Dem candidates. Yes, none of them is perfect, because they are complex, real people.

If a candidate emerges who IS perfect, either Democrat or Republican, beware. That person will likely appeal to the sort of simpletons like the author of this ltte. That's exactly how we ended up with card-board-cut-out President Reagan for 8 years.

7. Dick Yarbrough IS a fucking idiot...I had an email battle going with him...
Edited on Sat Jul-07-07 01:02 PM by mitchum
a couple of years ago. I kept handing him his ass in the exchange, but he was just too stupid to know when to quit. Unfortunately, that was all on my previous computer. Otherwise, I would post it here for everyone's entertainment.

8. There was a "sarcasm" smilie next to that article right?
I think the smirky liberal cable guy he threatened to beat up was tweety (actually he threatened to duel him). That duel would have been good for the ccountry no matter how it turned out.

And I wouldn't mind seeing him whip the entire staff of the New York Times either.

11. So what? Gen. Smedley Butler was a Marine as well.
Except Butler has a longer track record of opposing corporatism creeping into government than Miller ever has.

"My interest is, my one hobby is, maintaining a democracy. If you get these 500,000 soldiers advocating anything smelling of Fascism, I am going to get 500,000 more and lick the hell out of you, and we will have a real war right at home."

-- Gen. Smedley Butler, Reply to Gerald MacGuire, after being asked to organize WWI veterans (for military support) in a fascist-coup of FDR, as related by Butler in testimony before Congress, 1934.

13. So America wants someone who can literally beat them up?
I'm sure there are lots of thugs out there who would oblige.
