Clinton was never convicted of perjury, obstruction of justice, lying to investigators, or anything else. Not in the Senate, and not in any court of law. Scooter Libby was found guilty by a jury of his peers, and sentenced by a duly appointed (Republican) judge. Clinton, in other words, is considered innocent according to the most basic tenet of our justice system. Scooter Libby--not so much. In fact, the opposite of innocent.

If Clinton lied as alleged, he lied about a personal matter with no bearing on national security or his fitness for the office of the Presidency, after being backed into a legal corner at the end of a long, partisan witch-hunt. For Clinton, the allegation of perjury was the only potential crime--there was no underlying crime. Scooter Libby was an active participant in the outing of a covert CIA operative, who was head of the CIA bureau on Iraq and WMD counter-proliferation, for the purpose of discrediting a critic of Bush/Cheney's rationale for taking the nation to war. The underlying crime, in Libby's case, was the destruction of an important national security/intelligence asset. He lied about his participation in Plame's outing, and lied again in an effort to protect his bosses, Dick Cheney and George W Bush.

Bill Clinton pardoned Mark Rich, a friend and major contributor. George W Bush gave a Get Out of Jail Free card to the one guy on the planet who was in a postion to rat him and Cheney out. Clinton did a favor for a friend. Bush bought the silence of a potential witness against him and his administration.

See? It's really not that hard.

at several discussion forums. . .knowing they are just repeating talking points. So I just asked them. . ."and YOU campaigned on what? Dignity, trust in the government, values? You whined and gnashed and cried about Clinton for eight years, and the only thing you can come up with every time you people fu*k up is. .. 'but..but Clinton did it..?"
