5. Waiting on the World to Change |
|
Me and all my friends We're all misunderstood They say we stand for nothing and There's no way we ever could Now we see everything is going wrong With the world and those who lead it We just feel like we don't have the means To rise above and beat it
So we keep waiting (waiting) Waiting on the world to change We keep on waiting (waiting) Waiting on the world to change Its hard to beat the system When we're standing at a distance So we keep waiting (waiting) Waiting on the world to change
Now if we had the power To bring our neighbors home from war They would have never missed a Christmas No more ribbons on their door When you trust your television What you get is what you got Cuz when they own the information ooohhh, They can bend it all they want
So while we're waiting (waiting) Waiting on the world to change We keep on waiting (waiting) Waiting on the world to change It's not that we don't care We just know that the fight ain't fair So we keep waiting (waiting) Waiting on the world to change
We're still waiting (waiting) Waiting on the world to change We keep on waiting (waiting) Waiting on the world to change One day our generation Is gonna rule the population
So we keep on waiting (waiting) Waiting on the world to change Know we keep on waiting (waiting) Waiting on the world to change we keep on waiting (waiting) Waiting on the world to change Waiting on the world to change Waiting on the world to change Waiting on the world to change

6. Mayer was outstanding! |
|
I hope he's around forever. What a talent. Also, he has the most lyrical speaking voice. If you ever catch him in a spoken interview you will fall in love with his honey-sweet voice.

Very, very popular. IMHO, that's why she glommed on to HIM. But, I also think they are back together. She just had to change her style.

17. He was a huge SRV fan |
|
I recall he did an tribute to SRV and once he saw SRV all his rock posters came down and he went to the blues .
To me SRV is still not to be beaten however Mayer is great .

18. I didn't care for him much when I first heard him. |
|
And I did not think he was much of a blues player. His heart and soul did not seem to be in it.
He is much better live. He was at the Taste of Chicago. Buddy Guy came out, unannounced and started jammin' with him.
I am liking Mayer better these days, and I am very, very picky about my blues. But I question his taste in women.

20. I hear ya , I'm the same way being a blues guitarist myself |
|
When I was young well before the beatles came out living in chicago my 2 transister radio would only pick up blues stations from chicago , the two there were .
I knew right away this was my kind on music and has been all these years . You have to begin picking bits up from the old players and one day what you play becomes you .
I got alot of years in it now but blues always comes and goes is seems so I never made a living off of it but that was not the point for me , it's an escape from everything .

25. I listened to rock when I was young. |
|
I listened to all the fifties and sixties stuff. I still listen to rock.
But when I heard Janis Joplin, I found that no one had ever affected me the way she did. I started listening to her and to the Stones more closely. I started to understand what I was hearing.
Muddy Waters had a song that says it better than I can: The Blues Had a Baby and they Named it Rock and Roll.
I listened to those same two stations, when I could get them. I found out that the blues were in Chicago, but inaccessible to the likes of me. I was a blond, blue-eyed girl slightly underage. How could I go to a place like Checkers, and some of the other clubs?
I asked one of my black friends at college if she ever listened to the blues. She said, "That old stuff?" After I turned 21, she and her father took me to a club where I heard Koko Taylor for the first time. I don't even remember where it was or who else played.
Some of the older Chicago bluesmen hated what the 60's kids were doing to their music. The Stones took B.B. King on tour with them, and Howlin' Wolf opened for some rock bands. I thought that was a travesty, but he knew that a gig is a gig. After all, SRV once played at an inaugural party for *.
Now it is easier for us to hear what we want, and the old bluesmen are getting the respect they deserve. I think some of the white kids who have put their spin on the blues are very good. They have revitalized the genre and carried it to a new generation.
On August 2, I am going with my daughter to Ravinia, to hear Susan Tedeschi (one of my favorites) and Buddy Guy. My daughter is classically trained, but she loves the blues.

He was making fun of all the teeny boppers that came to hear his earlier hits. You could tell he just wanted to rock out on his guitar, which he pretty much did. It was a great concert.
