There has been more good music today than you will hear for months from you local "corporate-run" FM station. I was especially impressed with a couple of Aussie groups I've never heard before - John Butler Trio and Sneaky Sound System. They put on a helluva' show in Sidney.

2. not the fault of the music industry you don't look around on your own
why blame somebody else? with the internet you can get music from all over the place but you have to go looking for it.

3. My daughter loves all the Indy music out there
and we have gone to some really far-out stores to find off label music.
The talent is out there but most of it isn't considered main stream, especially the protest stuff and won't be aired on your Clear Channel, et al stations.

4. My laptop hasn't had this much fun...evah! Great concert, great navigation on the web site.
Al Gore has lots to be proud of - and we can all be proud of Al. Even if he doesn't win, the office of the president is inherently so hamstrung and political that I am thinking that Gore can be much more influencial and effective just doing what he is doing. And, I am not sure I would want to put the current state of the country and world on his shoulders, for his sake.

I did find out who Butler is because Malloy plays a bumper of his called crazy , it is just butler solo and it's great and it took alot of digging online to find the name and performer of this song , I only knew some of the words and usde these to track down by trial and error . I never did find the solo song though . Help !!!!!!

11. Most Americans would have never heard Dylan, Zappa, Young,
Joplin, and hundreds of other talented artists if the current situation was present back in the day.

12. That's for sure .
Those artists would have been banned , alot of their music was not played on am either even back then , it was when fm can to be and the under ground fm stations that used to play an entire album not just the best two songs .

the house!

I can get a bead on who's on stage at any time, it seems. But he finds his music by reading online extensively and listening to zillions of new musicians at Myspace and the like.

27. Here's his site, with lots of concert audio available for streaming
http://www.johnbutlertrio.com/audio.php

I haven't dug through enough to see if Crazy is included in the recordings, but you can stream the whole archive from the homepage http://www.johnbutlertrio.com/

On further searching, several live performances archived at: http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=collection%3AJohnButlerTrio%20AND%20year%3A%222002%22 include the song Crazy. The link was provided by Bishop, so approved.

4.4MB version - http://www.archive.org/download/jbt2002-03-05.sbd.shnf/jbt2002-03-05d2t02_64kb.mp3
9.9MB version - http://www.archive.org/download/jbt2002-03-05.sbd.shnf/jbt2002-03-05d2t02_vbr.mp3

There are more from other concerts if these are somehow flawed.

16. It's not just the music industry...
I'm not much into music but the same is true of popular fiction---the corporate culture tends to poison everything it touches. Those books that do get published offer "allowable fantasies" to their readers; there are whole viewpoints or premises that are untouchable, esp.when written by
American writers. E-book presses have stepped into the gap a little, but we need more indies...

18. The big corps are also about to fuck-up the internet.
We're already falling behind Europe with broadband service. The Bushitler crowd is poised to turn it over to the big boys like AT&T where the rich have a super highway, and everyone else gets a dirt road.

17. Hi Elwood. John Butler Trio is great! I buy JBT CDs from a local guy called
Dr. Music on the gulf coast in AL. Try to find a local music store (they are disappearing) and you will find all of the good stuff there. I was turned on to his music because I'm a huge Ben Harper fan and JBT has a very similar sound.

If you have never heard it, is the greatest thing that has happened to music, not just country music since sliced bread. Mo Jo Nixon rocks.

22. I thought the Sydney show was awesome--
especially Missy Higgins and Eskimo Joe. Of course, iTunes only has a few songs from Eskimo Joe, and apparently you can't buy them in the US.

Great shows, all the way around. Thank you, Mr. Gore!

Too much music and too much beer. I am a total dumb ass today.

I missed Missy Higgins and Eskimo Joe. Just too many things going on at the same time to catch them all.

I had no intention of watching any of it, but somebody here on DU posted a link, and I spent all afternoon at the computer. Darn them! :grr: :loveya:

I wound up working about 30 minutes and then spending hours on the computer watching the various concerts or reading DU.
