3. You know the guy that "proved" that "more guns=less crime"?
He, John Lott, works for the American Enterprise Institute, the same "think tank" that said the war in Iraq would be easy and who recently hired disgraced World Banker Wolfowitz. The AEI is also one of Cheney's favorite audiences.

Anyhow this John Lott character pretended on the internet that he was woman(Mary Rosh) and that she agreed with John Lott's works. This is the kind of person who works at the American Enterprise Institute.

5. Gee, another crosspost from the ban-guns lobby...
with the intent, of course, of criticizing LAWFUL gun ownership, rather than criminal misuse...

News flash--80 million gun owners didn't kill anybody on the Fourth. A lot of us went to the shooting range to celebrate the day, though...

Thanks for that.

8. Proliferation of what, precisely?

Proliferation of what, precisely?

The guns the Bradyites et al are fighting to ban (modern-looking carbines and high-end target rifles, mostly) are almost never used in crimes, per the FBI:

Murder, By State and Type of Weapon (FBI Uniform Crime Reports, 2005, Table 20)

All rifles COMBINED account for less than 3% of homicides, or less than half as many as fists and feet, and in any given year numerous states will report zero rifle homicides. But they are very, very popular with Gen-X and Gen-Y recreational shooters and gun owners (like yours truly), which presumably is why it's so damn important to ban them.

The "weapon of choice of criminals" is .38/.357 revolvers and small pistols, which are precisely the guns the Bradyites are trying to push the market toward, via capacity limits and whatnot, and those have been common since the early 1900's (prior to 1968, you could order them anonymously through the mail, even).

Since most of the handgun mayhem is caused by people with criminal records who can't legally own a gun in the first place, and couldn't obtain a carry license even if they cared enough to bother, fighting to ban the lawful ownership of popular rifles by people with squeaky-clean records is utterly wrongheaded.

9. Who do you think about when you shoot those fake assault rifles?
I bet it would be quite revealing if we could know.

Not "who," but "what":

Clear your mind, and focus. Sight alignment, breath control, smooth trigger press.

Shooting is zen, not adrenaline. Even in competitive shooting (I shoot IPSC/IDPA on occasion), the mantra is "slow is smooth, and smooth is fast."

Shooter's-eye-view (the reticle is actually red LED, but it washed out my cheap camera's CCD so it looks white instead):

Targets were bullseyes and 3x5 cards at 100 yards, but I also did a bit of offhand shooting at 50 to practice magazine changes in preparation for a match next month.

I usually try to make a quick trip, other stuff permitting. This year, I went Sat. instead, so we just slept in a little, I cooked steak for us for brunch, then we went swimming, and closed the day by going to a municipal fireworks display. All in all, a good day.

A quick range trip would have been inserted in between the steak and the swimming, probably.

Hey, I'm as pro-righttobearsarms as anyone, but that's a pretty fucked up "celebration" dude.

Why not? It's celebrating freedom by exercising it. And the sunshine, wind in your hair, nice breeze blowing...I enjoy being outdoors, and shooting is zen anyway. Beats the heck out of sitting on the couch and watching sports, like some people do...

IIRC, I also posted a bit on DU (another freedom!) but mostly spent time with my family. We didn't buy any fireworks this year, either, just watched the pros do it.

7. thanks
for keeping us informed of the death toll in America. Looks like a lot of these killings were perpetrated by people who own guns legally.

We are all being held hostage to the gun lobby.

12. July 3 and 4 are very deadly days in the USA

Four Deadliest Days on Roadways

1. July 4
2. July 3
3. December 23
4. December 24

We should ban those days. And Thanksgiving too.

Nothing less than human sacrifice to a false religion that gets on it knees to pray to vacations and visiting family.
