Live Earth Performer Question - Where are the other big dogs.. |
|
Not taking away anything from those performing in these concerts, but I'm kind of curious where are all other big performers like Springsteen, U2, The Rolling Stones, Willie Nelson, Neil Young, et cetera....

2. it seems this concert was aimed at a younger crowd - they |
|
are the ones that will have rise up and change the world - and they are the ones being targeted by the right to join their youth ministries (reminds me of hitler youth when I run into them trying to evangelized people)had two sets up them approach me while I was sitting enjoying the end of the night at Universal on the amphitheater steps - they are being brainwashed

what I was thinking. This is one where the youth has to be considered and appealed to, I believe.

3. As far as I can tell, all these groups are on Summer Tours... |
|
It takes a great deal of money for a band not on tour to just assemble and play a date. More than you may think. If you've ever been to a U2 show you know they don't just show up and play, it's a major spectacle. Anyways, Bono has his Africa thing. Didn't Springsteen do enough in 2004?

that they specifically tried to book bands that were already touring near the locations of the concerts as much as possible to cut down on travel. If they did it was a wise move, given that I'm sure Faux News is already talking about how many limos and gallons jet fuel were used today.

|
when we wanted to see Springsteen, U2, The Rolling Stones, Willie Nelson, Neil Young, et cetera....

9. Yep this one is for the children |
|
and the young adults. They will have to clean up this Bushco mess or their home version. Watching NBC -they're showing a bit from OZ -that was great. Where did all the good people go.

21. Isn't that singing to the choir though? |
|
One great thing I feel for the future of the liberal/progressive future is that young people are more open, more tolerant and more understanding to things like race, sexual orientation and the environment, so putting on a show to just them is sort of preaching to the choir.
The ones with the power are the ones that also need to be persuaded. (But then again, maybe they are just too stubborn to do so.)

20. Then why Madonna....Genesis...the Police.... |
|
I'm still curious where the others have been. Neil Young has been singing about the environment for years....it's just kind of bizarre.

7. I was just wondering about that, too. Personally, a concert like this |
|
in NJ -- where's Bruce?
He was central in putting together the MUSE concerts years ago -- any other old farts remember that?
I'll confess, I watching Bon Jovi, just sort of hoping someone might show up...
Jackson Browne's another one I would have expected to be right in the midst of this...

16. Do not expect Bruce to be in the public eye regarding anything political anymore... |
|
It was well known in the fan circles that Bruce was disappointed that the "Vote for Change" tour failed to secure a democratic victory. I believe that Bruce works more in the background these days.
As stated earlier, this is going to be the start of a grass-roots effort to solve the issue. To do that, you need the younger generation. So, except for a few exceptions, the performers are geared to that demographic.
Jon Bon Jovi is a personal friend of Al Gore, and was the first artist to commit to the effort.
Plus, Bruce is reported to be finishing up a new release in Atlanta, and has not started rehearsals with the E Street Band yet.

12. Funny, I was thinking that these bands are the big dogs! |
|
But I guess that's because I fall into the "youth" category. :hi:
Foo Fighters, Chili Peppers, Kanye West, Sheryl Crow, Smashing Pumpkins are all some of my favorite artists. I am thrilled to see them all participating in this event!!!
