30. That is exactly what I was going to say.
It would be great if he could get it out by this Christmas. It would give us enough time to have these diebold machines required to reveal the source code, and a paper audit system, so that their would be more transparency.

34. I have to go with Election corruption
Edited on Sat Jul-07-07 10:07 PM by marions ghost
which ties into other corruption. This is what needs to be given the Michael Moore torchlight next IMO. It is basic to our survival as a democracy. And election stuff confuses a lot of people. Moore's dissection of how it "works" would be an eye-opener for so many Americans who blindly trust the process.

I also think MM could do an excellent job comparing the preferential treatment given to white collar criminals vs. street criminals. Violence, loss of resources, and loss of life due to white collar crime is undermining this country, right on up to the offices of the Unitary Executive. And the Justice system does not have what it takes to deal with it.

Good hypothetical question, even tho MM probably has his next topic selected.

35. First "voter ID", then the GOP's partial restoration of SLAVERY through incarcerating
Edited on Sat Jul-07-07 10:07 PM by ProgressiveEconomist
disproportionately high proportions of young African-American and Hispanic young men.

Tables at http://www.albany.edu/sourcebook/tost_6.html show that Federal/state incarceration was falling before Niixon took office. Since Reagan's election, federal, state, and local incarceration has risen by 337 percent, disproportionately among minorities. Incredibly, more than 7 percent of ALL African-American men in their 20s and 30s were incarcerated in federal and state prisons at survey time in 2005, compared to 1 percent of Caucasian men in the same age group. This might be considered tantamount to a 6 percent RESTORATION OF SLAVERY for young African-American men.

"Voter ID" is a fiendishly clever GOP scheme to disfranchise disproportionate proportions of urban and/or elderly non-drivers, who overwhelmingly vote for Democrats. Even most Democrats don't understand Prince of Darkness Jame's Baker's brightest idea, and tend to go along with it. This situation has to be corrected before rules get set for the 2008 presidential election, and Moore is best positioned to do the explaining, by finding people who were disfranchised last time in Missouri and Georgia.

Skyrocketing incarceration, often to profit the "prison industrial complex", has dire consequences for the Democratic vote (disproportionately urban and poor prisoners vote in only one state), for the economic status of minority children (their fathers CAN'T earn wages to support them), and for education rates (felons can't get school loans, thanks to Republican "tough-on-crime" legislation). This is the leading "elephant in the living room" story the mainstream media refuse to touch.

37. I think he ought to showcase families trying to survive
on a moderate income...those who make too much to qualify for any type of government assistance. Show those working class people who vote for repugs that they are voting against their class interests.

I think the fallacy of the poverty levels need to be exposed. Michael Moore is the person to do that in an entertaining, non wonkish way.

50. I... don't know
Moore is someone who likes to throw stones at hornets nests. With that in mind...

Election machines/reform -- Been there, done that w/ "Hacking Democracy". Not sure what else he could add to this aside from getting more publicity.

Environment -- Been there, done that w/ "An Inconvenient Truth". Nothing more he could add there.

...

errrrmm... I dunno...

OH! I have an idea.

Point the cameras at the cops. I'm sure he can find enough stuff on dirty cops to make a movie from.

51. "Michael Moore's Uprising"
Directed by Moore, the concert film, which is in post-production, is in two parts. "Live in London" documents Moore's fall 2002 London one-man stage show, "The Average Everyday Evildoers," which was sold out for its entire five-week run at the Roundhouse Theatre in Camden. Filmed after the release of "Fahrenheit 9/11," "Live Across America" covers Moore's 62-city college fall 2004 tour to drum up the youth vote for the presidential election.

"It's not only an incredible record of our time," said Harvey Weinstein, "but it is unbelievably hilarious."
