Two monster names missing from "Live Earth"
Edited on Sat Jul-07-07 11:46 PM by Bluzmann57
Neil Young and Willie Nelson. Both men are friends of the environment and I suspect could have had millions of viewers tuning in just for them. Now I am just commenting, not complaining. So don't start thinking this is sour grapes. I don't have any idea of how bands were booked and so I have no way of knowing if either man was asked. It was a pretty good show and hopefully, people were listening.

1. Man, I just got an image of Neil singing "Let's impeach the President" that would have been great!

7. It would have been a lovely accompaniment
to Melissa Etheridge and her reference to Cindy Sheehan and Bush lying. The very thought just gives me chills.

29. Bono is a self-serving jackass.
He probably couldn't bear to be upstaged by Al Gore.

10. Hmmm...
I think I said it was a good show. But maybe I didn't say that. I was just making a comment. I am not a big fan of Madonna. I she talented? Yes. I am not a big fan of Kanye West. Is he talented? Yes. All I did was make an observation. But I guess it could be predicted that someone would say there's whining going on. Think what you want. The show likely helped somewhat with the pop stars on it reaching out to young people. And that's a good thing.

9. New generation
I don't think there was anybody from the actual 60's there. I think it was specifically designed to draw a distinction between boomers and the generation NEXT.

I think that's a pretty good thing. After all, you have to save us from ourselves.

14. Lessee....
Madonna, Bon Jovi, Spinal Tap, Roger Waters, The Police... most of the featured acts. There was something for everybody.

Neil Young would've fit right in.

19. That's not my music
Except Pink Floyd, and I'm the tail end of the boomer generation. That's 80's and beyond music. It's time to stop putting a 60's woodstock hippie feel to everything. Besides, I think this has more of a feel to the original LiveAID concert, seems to me.

12. You Really Think Willie Nelson Would've Fit In?
I dunno. I think it woulda been really out of context to see him up there all of a sudden, based on the tone of the rest of the show. Would've seemed really odd to me, but to each their own I guess.

15. Wasn't Dave Matthews there today?
Dave Matthews Band and Willie Nelson do quite a few projects together anymore, including Farm Aid.

Fans of DMB would have found nothing out of the ordinary if Willie had been on stage. Besides, I've heard a few young coworkers in the past talk about how the coolest thing ever would be to get high w/ Willie Nelson. If some think like that he would have fit in just fine.

21. What about Sheryl Crow? She's very involved in the environmental-awareness movement.
She's on tour now and I suspect many others who would seem a "natural" addition were as well and that's why they couldn't make it.

25. No McCartney, Dylan, Who, Stones, Springsteen...
McCartney has had environmental groups (Friends Of The Earth) sponsor tours in the past, and Springsteen in known for taking political stances. Dylan seems to prefer to remain apolitical these days, but he did play Live Aid in the 80's, as did the Who. Not sure why Live Earth is mostly devoid of Rock & Roll Hall Of Famer's...

Just makes me feel old seeing all these mega stars of today- Kelly Clarkson, Kanye, West, Linkin Park, John Mayer- I barely know their music, I can't relate. But, if it gets the attention of the youngsters out there, that's cool.

26. I know Willie's touring right now. Might have been a scheduling conflict
Not sure about Neil Young.

Maybe they'll somehow incorporate this message into Farm Aid. Family farms are more than likely easier on the planet than corporate farms, so it's not in conflict with their usual gig, really.
