"American Taliban" in Louisiana? |
|
From an AP report in my local paper "The Daily Press":
A city court lobby in Slidell, Louisiana is home to a portrait of Jesus holding biblical quotations about justice. A local judge has ruled it will stay put unless an order by a Federal judge is handed down. The ACLU has threatened to go to court to get such an order. City Judge Jim Lanz said, "The only opinion that counts in this type of case is the opinion of the federal judge to whom this will go if the ACLU sues" Mayor Ben Morris said he was ready to fight. "I fight daily with FEMA for the recovery of our city, and now we must fight with these tyrants, this American Taliban who seek to destroy our culture and our heritage"
The ACLU is...The American Taliban????
:wow:

1. perhaps the mayor sees the ACLU as outsiders telling his townspeople |
|
that they can't do something.
It's a stretch.

But, first of all "ACLU" stands for "American Civil Liberties Union", and they seem to remember something about separation of church and state. To me, calling an organization that exists to protect EVERY AMERICAN's civil liberties "The American Taliban" is beyond a stretch. Americans that enter that government building shouldn't have to have Christian beliefs thrust upon them.
