John Conyers on ABC This Week: "No, I Didn't Put Impeachment On The Table"
First off, Conyers basically said the "impression" was that Libby knew too much and that the commutation was a coverup. He didn't say the word "coverup" but he certainly implied it.

I got a little excited when he mentioned "The cries for the removal of Cheney and Bush for impeachment.

But then this: "No, I didn't put impeachment on the table...If I wanted impeachment, I would probably be on your program next Sunday."

DEMS GET A DAMN SPINE!!

1. I thought Conyers showed spine
Conyers entertained the idea of contempt charges. I didn't expect impeachment but I was hoping Conyers would favor contempt charges against Sara Taylor. Conyers said no to that. Still, Conyers moved the ball down field.

15. okay so I watched it
and it sucked. Impeachment should be front and center. Period. That last statement he made about being on his show next week made no sense what so ever. It was nonsense for a very serious subject.

4. okay, I'm going to say it-the leaders of the democratic party are,
at this point, accomplices to the crimes of the administration.
there-flame away.

7. It's the simple truth -- they are indeed accomplices.
Edited on Sun Jul-08-07 10:36 AM by pat_k
If the police know a criminal enterprise is going on under their noses and refuse to use the power we gave them to try to stop it, they too would be accomplices.

When it comes to supporting and defending the Constitution Members of Congress are the "cops." And we gave them the power to impeach to defend against attacks that come from within the halls of power. It has become axiomatic in DC that Bush and Cheney are waging open war on the constitution. Their refusal to act on that knowledge makes them accomplices.

What's so horrifying is the nature of the crimes they are accomplices in: Torture and countless other violations of Title 18, Sec 2441 (War Crimes). Violations we deem so grave that violators are subject to death under that law.

And, even worse, if that is possible, is that they tell us their refusal to act is for political benefit -- to improve their chances of winning the White House. Of course that's the opposite of reality, but they claim to believe it. Therefore, they are telling us they are willing to allow torture to continue for political gain.

It's the grim truth. There is no way around it. In fact, I've never had anyone actually argue against the fact that their failure makes them accomplices. Those who don't agree evade addressing it. Occassionally someone labels it "overdramatic" (or something similar) but that doesn't constitute a challenge.

11. I'll argue it
Failure to stop a crime does not make one an accomplice. So says the law. How many crimes have you stopped? And I don't think Democrats even have the power to stop Bush's crimes yet.

John Conyers is the best guy up there. If he's not good enough, nobody is.

12. They are investigating and following the legal steps to get testimony/info from Bush admin
I hardly see how that makes them "accomplices"

6. We (rank and file) Dem's
really need to start replacing those Rep's that aren't listening to their constituents. There is NO justification for any REP of "we the people" to be deciding what's on or off the table, those are decisions that should be made by the voters. They (House Rep's and Senators) work for US, we pay their salary and we should be telling them what WE want and it's up to them to figure out how to provide it or explain why they can't. Seems that most of the elected have completely lost their fear of the people, and that's led to a level of arrogance that's just plain unacceptable for employees of "we the people".

8. Conyers along with Leahy and Schumer on the other shows was ON MESSAGE...
Finally our Dems are all together in the Talking Point of the Week (learning the Repugs Game) by saying..."The President wanted what Libby had to say covered up so he couldn't tesify and that's why his sentence was commuted."

I missed Conyers but saw the other two...so it seems that all three were putting out that "Bush is involved in cover up."

Best I've seen our Dems do. They finally get it...

16. Quoting for truth
"CONYERS SHOWED PLENTY OF SPINE -- if you want to attack somebody, attack the Republicans who continue to protect Bushco."

This is why I bash anyone and everyone who accuse Dems of cowardice or those who think sending Pelosi paper plates will make a damn difference and their ilk.

Dear morans. All of what you're doing won't make a goddamned difference. If you want to make impeachment possible, pressure the Repukes who shield BushCo.
