I'm pretty certain Gore would win in a landslide, which in mho, is the reason he should run.

A landslide means coattails, long coattails, and on those coattails will ride new Democrats for the House and Senate. Al could do a whole lot with a mandate and a large majority in Congress.

2. I agree. Larry Flynt in the latest Hustler promotes "Draft Gore".

Al would be such a clear winner, there wouldn't be any point in holding an election!!

He already won once.

I think I'll write him in even if he isn't on the ballot.

3. but, but... why do you hate Hillary?
(just kidding)

I'd totally vote for Al Gore. I don't trust Hillary Clinton; don't know why for sure, just an intuitive thing. I cringe every time I hear her spinning.

4. She reminds me of a scary woman I used to work with - totally terrifying -
dominating, overbearing personality and those eyes that could pierce you like a lance. UGH!

Her politics are completely self serving and opportunistic (Iraq, Bankruptcy Bill, etc.)

7. any bets they'll close this thread as flamebait? Seems anything negative is said about Hillary
and all goes away.

Dominant womem don't bother me, I kinda like em  . Dominant women that I don't trust however, scare me. And I don't trust her.

5. after reading his book, ASSAULT ON REASON, I don't think corporate America would let him win
He was too honest about who is behind the GOP, the assault on the middle class, and most importantly, the oil motive for the Iraq War.

He would be ridiculed, scandaled, or killed to keep him from that office.

8. Media and petulant democrats will prevent ANY DEM from winning in a landslide
The media will marginalize any Democrat, painting him or her as "boring out of the mainstream" etc

Petulant Dems will say "If candidate X does not say this I WILL NOT VOTE FOR HIM OR HER"

9. Well, he didn't rule it out completely when asked last night.
"I'm not planning on running" is not the same as "I will not run". He was clearly uncomfortable with discussing this question, probably because he really doesn't want to distract from the message of the day.

But there's no doubting that Al would be the prohibitive favorite if he decides to get in. He really has no need to play the traditional Presidential campaign game. In fact, there's all downside if he does. The pressure to allow big money into his campaign would be huge...and I think Al wants to avoid that coalition of corporate interests. His campaign needs only a simple announcement to go from idle to overdrive in days. He's got the votes of everyone 20-30 something, every Democrat, every Independent, and a fair amount of Republicans if he chooses to enter the race. He'd have a moral authority unlike any candidate that I've ever seen run for the office.

12. I'm thinking only about 30% will vote against him. The "backwash" vote.
Wait, a lot of Fundies will probably stay home because they're not liking any of the Repuke candidates. Make that 20%.

I bet Nader will endorse him and the Greens vote for him. Did you see Nader at the AIT booksigning?

Dana Milbank, Washington Post Friday, June 16, 2006

Next stop on the Turn-Back-Time tour: Olsson's book shop on 7th Street Northwest, where Gore was signing books at noon. "I'm not supposed to say anything, just sign books," he announced when he started. But when he got to number 214 in the line, he noticed the lanky figure and stood up. "Nice to see you! How you doing? . . . I'm really so grateful to you for coming by."

After more pleasantries, Gore scribbled a line in the book: "For my friend, Ralph Nader. With respect, Al Gore."

Nader was smitten. "He's liberated!" Nader said. "He's defining what progressive Democrats should be about."
