4. Gore has the experience thing down pat, what he needs is a running mate |

who adds a little in the excitement category and I would propose Sen. Barack Obama.
p.s. Bill Clinton cannot serve as VP because he already served two terms as president and the VP has to be ready to step into the presidency.

5. I'm not sure that's true about Clinton. |
|
I think the law is that you can only be elected twice. Not sure there's any actual limitation on the number of terms you can serve. I'll check.

8. It's an undecided question.... |
|
the language of the various amendments dealing with this aren't entirely consistent.

7. This was discussed here before. IIRC, |
|
it is a term limit of 10 years, so technically Bill could be elected VP, but if he had to step in as POTUS he could only serve 2 years. Not sure, but I think that is what was discovered.

12. No, that's not it at all |
|
the issue is that one amendment states that no President shall be elected more than twice (or serve more than 10 years, if s/he assumes the presidency).
The requirements for VP, though, are merely that one be 35 years old, a natural-born citizen, and a resident of the US for 14 years. So presumably, anybody meeting THOSE requirements (which Clinton does) can become Vice President.
The issue is vague wording in two different parts of the constitution. However, this loophole is due to a very literal reading. I suspect, though, that the courts would rule that the INTENT of the 22nd Amendment was to prevent anyone from holding the office for more than two terms, and thus clinton would not be eligible to be VP, despite the literal wording of the constitution.

16. But, the majority of the SCOTUS are "strict constructionists", meaning |
|
they believe in a literal interpretation! :sarcasm: Of course, we've alerady seen that they only apply literal interpretations when it is "convenient". So, basically, it is what I stated before. He can run as VP, but if elected and he assumes the POTUS he can only serve for 2 years.

if he's allowed to be VP, he's allowed to assume the Presidency, for the rest of the term. He couldn't run for reelection, though.

17. Gore/Obama would be one of my ideal tickets. |
|
The other would be Gore/Clark, which i very nearly voted for. A Gore/Obama ticket could be great because assuming we get 8 years of Gore and Obama, that would give Barack Obama all the international experience he would need to become the #1 guy running for president in, say, 2016. No one would be able to doubt his experience then. Something about 16 years of Democratic leadership in the White House makes me feel fuzzy.
Or maybe I need to shave.
