"Why didn't I think of that" thread....In light of our awakening |
|
regarding global warming, may I suggest that we start a thread of good ideas to help save resources, the environment, money, anything that will give us a few good ideas about how to conserve.
Today, someone bought to our attention that:
Turning off your monitor while your computer is not in use will save because you are not using one energy consuming appliance for many hours of your day. All it takes is one quick click.
How about your simple and logical ideas. Must be tons that would help us all.

3. I was wondering about that. |
|
Is it harder on the monitor? Are we sure that does not end up using more energy? Are there any experts here?
I was more interested to learn about unplugging things like chargers. That can save energy, too, and is easy to do.

Turn off your whole computer not just the monitor. Disable all the little clocks that are hidden everywhere in your house and office.

5. 1. Unplug your cell phone charger |
|
when not in use. Plugged in, it still draws current.
2. If you sew, make shopping bags from discarded or second hand clothes.
3. Remodeling? Shop at the growing number of reuse building material stores in your state or region. Save a lot of money on windows, doors, hardware, sinks and keep reusable material out of the landfills. Our local one is here: www.reuseitcenter.org

Save money, save oil in producing plastic bottles, save the landfills, let the spring water feed the rivers and save the fish. http://www.healthgoods.com/Shopping/Water_Quality_Products/Drinking_Water_Filter_Systems.asp

7. Definitely turn off your animated screen savers |
|
Even if you turn your monitor off, the CPU cycles required for some of the animated screensavers are obscene. Set it to blank the screen.

8. I wash all my clothes in cold water |
|
and they still seem to come out clean, I've switched to the new light bulbs, and I don't leave the light on in rooms, I'm not using, if I'm baking during winter, when I'm finished, I leave the oven door open to let the heat in to the house. I still have a long way to go, but I'm making headway.
