HMO's Have Spent MILLIONS Getting Their POV Across & Into Our Political Reality
Edited on Sun Jul-08-07 04:19 PM by cryingshame
I am so damned tired of DU'ers or anyone saying Sicko doesn't give equal or any time to HMO's or the Health Care Industry(tm) to present their rebuttal.

#1. Moore is an artist doing artwork and is presenting his own POV.
#2. Moore's movie is based on irrefutable facts/statistics
#3. HMO's have spent untold millions on getting the health care system to reflect THEIR exclusive financial benefit

My heavens, HMO's have donated HOW much to politicians to make sure their desires are met at the cost of society (or health care consumers, as they call us)?

HMO's spent how much on infomercials and ads to make us think any other system is the work of a socialistic devil that would leave us all waiting an eternity for care from some strange doctor using antiquated tools?

We all already KNOW the HMO's point of view. It's been shoved down our throats. Most of us have swallowed their system without questioning the potential for having alternatives.

Why the hell should Moore give even more time to the corporate monsters who've left us all to die because their bottom line is of primal import?

Please insert your own rant here.......

4. For direct evidence of that recall the Harry and Louise ads.
The insurance industries ran a huge TV campaign to help kill off health care reform during the early Clinton years. You know they are gearing up for the same type of campaign this time around. I agree, that criticism of Moore is pretty baseless.

6. I just saw Sicko today.
ANYONE who still thinks the insurance industry, the gov't, etc. have any interest in taking care of ordinary people is seriously deluded! I went in completely disgusted and left even more disgusted. The insurance companies make profits in the BILLIONS for neglecting those they insure. When they pay a claim, they call is a 'medical loss.' What's that about? I could go on and on.

7. me too.
the entire audience was major league affected. infected, inflected, detected (the lies of the current system). White, black, young old, married, single, probably the most diverse crowd I have seen at an afternoon matinee.

I walked out of that movie a changed person. It is that good.

WE ARE FUCKED HERE, unless and until we act. We must demand universal, single pay health care for every single person in this country, legal or not.

10. Yes, we are fucked!
I'm sorry to say I found myself wishing I could move to France or England. Life seems to be better and less stressful over there. I spoke with a woman in the restroom after the movie and she told me of her medical problems and that she can't get coverage due to cancer in the past. She has to be cancer-free for 10 years before anyone will cover her. We are so backwards here. It's frustrating.

8. A flood, a torrent, a deluge of corporate propaganda
is poured into us on a daily basis and we turn around and say 'Moore isn't fair and balanced' for his barely visible attempt to counter the bullshit. You have to wonder what is wrong with us. Then again, considering the fact that we are submerged in a sea of continuous bullshit it really is a wonder that any alternate viewpoints manage to get out at all.

9. Right you are...
...and of course there is the fact that Moore invited the insurance industry to talk to him but for some reason ( ;-) ) they would not do so...

11. The TRUTH does not have 2 sides
All Mr. Moore has done with Sicko, and with his other films, is present the truth. There is no "other side", besides lies, of course.

Those who fall for the right wing talking point (a lie) that he is a propagandist have been brainwashed by the Fox News style media machine that turns everything - even scientific facts - into a "debate".

12. well, there are two sides, actually
the right side and the wrong side. And with Iraq, healthcare, taxes, and pretty much every other issue, the Bush Admin has been on the wrong side. every single opportunity, and with every single issue.

13. Are HMOs whining?
They must be afraid of losing their monster profits. Time they stopped being in business. If you offer a product, then don't live up to your promise, time for that business to die.
