"Gore, blimey!"...London bookmakers raise odds on Gore becoming next President
Just for grins . . .

Clinton, Hillary 9/4
Obama, Barack 5/1
Giuliani, Rudolph 6/1
Thompson, F 6/1
Gore, Al 8/1
Romney, Mitt 14/1
Edwards, John 20/1
McCain, John 25/1
Bloomberg, Michael 40/1
Rice, Condoleezza 80/1
Biden, Joseph 100/1
Bush, Jeb 200/1

'Our next point of interest is an investment at much larger odds – Al Gore at a best price 8/1 to become the next President of the United States of America. At present the odds layers are focused on Hilary Clinton at the ridicously short price of 2/1 with Obama and Giuliani second and third in the betting at around the 4/1 mark.

Before even considering any of the reasons why Gore is so attractively priced, we should refer to a poll recently conducted in the key state of New Hampshire. Despite not officially entering the race, Al Gore was considered the overwhelming favourite to represent the Democrats. Hillary Clinton, the forerunner, would be forced into second place by 6 percentage points. Al Gore hasn’t ruled himself in the Presidency race, but he hasn’t exactly ruled himself out the running. In my opinion this is as good as saying I am extremely interested in becoming President.

I really don’t buy his line about falling out of love with Politics...The answers I keep coming up with are either he thinks he might fall back in love sooner rather than later, or he is playing a very clever game in that most people want something they can’t have. By appearing unattainable, the US public may see Gore more and more as the kind of figure they want leading the country. Once his popularity hits a certain level, perhaps then will we see Al Gore announce his intentions to run.

Whatever happens at this stage 8/1 looks a cracking investment. If he doesn’t run the bet of course has slim to no chance of showing a return. However, should the moment come when Al Gore falls back in love with politics, expect those odds to significantly shorten.

1. I am literally holding my breath...
...my political life on hold; until we find out if Gore is running or not.

It's a good sign that he has failed to state exactly, "No. I am not running".

I'm hanging on to that.

After seeing "Sicko" the other night, I'm convinced that our country is in terrible,
terrible peril. We are rotting as a nation.

Gore is the only one who is electable, who can fix this.

I really don't know what I'll do---if he's not the nominee.

I really don't know if I want to be in this country anymore. Sad. Very, very sad.

7. you didn't know we were in trouble until sicko? Have you been in a coma?
If not for the '06 election, Bush might have already attacked Iran and started world war.

10. I realized that we were in deep trouble...
...prior to "Sicko". However, "Sicko" hit home a point that
sunk into my heart. All of the problems with our nation right
now--are symptoms of a rotting core. It's easy to complain about
health care, illegal wiretapping, etc. "Sicko" made me realize that
those things are happening because our nation has slid down a hill
into the toilet. We are in the toilet.

"Sicko" hit home for me that this nation is not fixable---by only
fixing a handful of issues. This entire country has changed.

I realized all of this before...but "Sicko" put together all of the
puzzle pieces for me and made me see clearly that our nation's
problems (lack of health care, torture, the poor, education, Iraq,
etc) are only symptoms.

It really hit me hard because the only remedy is revolution.

8. If the court were to rule congressional insertion into the order of succession constitutional
which I don't think they would, Pelosi would become "Acting President," only the Vice-President can assume the office of President. Anyone else has all the powers but they only become Acting President.

6. This site says:
"Over the years, readaBet has consistently proved a thorn in the bookmakers side when it comes to politics. Starting back in 2004, we proved our ability to pick out value political wagers, most memorably the turnout in the US election being higher than 54.5%, an absolute gift at the time considering the US press were full of stories about the higher expected turnout at the time.

More recently readaBet political followers are sitting on very tidy 2/1 voucher for the next UK general election to be called in 2009, those odds have since halved as the media hype surrounding a potential 2008 date have considerably died down."

9. Earl Long used to say that anyone who didn't bet at least $10,000 on themselves to win

shouldn't be running and didn't deserve anyone's votes. And that was 40's and 50's dollars.

12. When the bookies start shortening odds...
...you know you're doing well.

OK, he might not run or win if he did but at 8/1, it's got to be worth a tenner. Hillary at 9/4 is nuts considering the baggage she brings with her, Obama at 5/1 sounds about right. At those odds, it's worth venturing a tenner on Obama or Gore (for an £80 return plus your stake back) but the same bet on Hillary would only gain you a £22.50 return (plus your stake) so if anyone wants to bet on all three, I'd suggest ten each on Obama and Gore and twenty on Hillary, that way you cover your losses if Hillary wins and make a tidy profit if either of teh other two wins.

14. Can I put money on JEB being the Publican VP candidate?
After Romney's comment about Jeb being a good possibility, I think the fix is in.

The Publican candidate would be well-advised to remember what happened to the *last* guy who had a Bush as his VP (and within 3 months of taking office, at that).
