1. Bush didn't get hurt with his base on the Libby thing.
But he did get hurt with them by his stance on immigration.

5. an affair with an intern might cost him some of his KKKristian base
His fundie base will stick with him through thick and thin as long as there isn't any sex involved. His corporate base will stick by him as long as the money keep flowing and regulations are eased. He probably will lose some of his redneck base because of immigration. With immigration it was either the rednecks or the corporations he chose to side with the corporations because they are the ones who will provide his multi million dollar salary when he leaves office.

2. He thinks himself another Frederick the Great.

"My people and I have come to an agreement which satisfies us both. They are to say what they please, and I am to do what I please." — Frederick the Great

Of course, Smirky McCodpiece parphrases it in his own inimitable fashion: "Who cares what you think?"

3. You mean his real base?
Or the kkkristian fundagelicals who think they are his base? You answered your own question. As long as his real base (corporate wing of the republikan party) is makin money, they will stick with him. When they start to lose money, he's over the side like a rotten side of beef.

4. The immigration bill hurt him with much of his base
And contrary to conventional wisdom, the Libby pardon-lite did not have overwhelming support from rank and file Republicans. In any event, conservatuves out in the heartland care more about what happens with immigration than what happens to some establishment bureaucrat like Libby.

8. I think it's because they believe the lies
that the Libby thing was no big deal or no crime was committed. It's a failure of the American press, dead last in worth in the western world, especially in the most propagandized population in the west and more. All the lies that drive their fears and thus their racism is really big with them.

7. no. that wouldn't do it. they all do crap like that. (behind closed doors
of course--the sins of the sexually repressed)

he'd have to raise taxes on the top 1 percent and then he'd lose his base.

i'm not saying his base is only in the top 1 percent--but the rest of his base would empathize so much with the uber rich that he'd lose their support too.
