And if I couldn't, then I'd do what I could to raise support for him otherwise. That guy is something else. One of my heroes, without a doubt.

1. Me, too. But that whole assassination thing must be a real
deterrent.

2. If he runs for anything, it'll be for his life.
:(

He may already be after his Live Earth speech.

3. Bobby won't be running
Edited on Mon Jul-09-07 02:44 AM by DFW
He has serious speaking problems, as you heard. He had a serious asthma problem some years back, and
it affected his speaking voice. He has guts to go out there and do his radio show and do speeches like
the one at Live Earth, but even by the end of his live Earth speech, he was starting to lose his voice.

Besides that, like Al Gore, he is involved in a lot of worthwhile projects, and probably doesn't want the
distraction. Unlike his brother, Joe, he hasn't held any major elective office, and has never had to
go through the compromises and deal-making that come with elective office. I doubt he would want to start.
Also, my younger daughter would never allow him a moment's peace if he left Pace Law before she had a chance
to take one of his classes (she starts this Fall).

Gore is in a slightly different position, as he has been there. Hell, he was already elected president once.
But if Gore decides to stick with his present position of not running, who can blame him for "falling out of
love with politics?"

My only answer to that is, "hey, Al, how can we ever elect the best if the best won't run?"

5. he said he might run for NY Senate
Edited on Mon Jul-09-07 02:56 AM by garybeck
if Hillary gives it up. I swear he said that on his radio show once.

by the way, his speach problem is a benign disease and in my opinion should have no affect on his electability.

7. I think I remember that
I still say he has no plans at all for it, and nor would it fit into his plans.
On the other hand, if Hillary wins the presidency, and Spitzer leans on him to
do it, he might change his mind, but only reluctantly. It's certainly nothing
he's looking for or chasing after.

At this point, where the presidency in 2008 is SUCH a wide-open question, I'm
sure he's not giving it a second thought. I wouldn't either in his position.

8. how do you know that?
I think he does have aspirations. I don't think he's interested at all in the presidency, at least not now. But I think he's interested in becoming a Senator at some point. I've listened to him on the radio enough to say I have a feel for it. It's obvious, he's doing everything humanly possible outside of politics to make positive change. And he also realizes that certain things can only be accomplished inside politics. I think he knows that at some point it if he jumps in he could have an even greater effect than he is now. To say it would be reluctant is conjecture.

9. He and I were schoolmates many years ago
We were closer friends back then (our dads were pretty close), but we still talk occasionally.

I can't read his mind, but I listen to what he says. I have a "feel for it," too.
You base you opinions on what you hear, and I'll base mine on what I hear. If that's
conjecture, so be it. I can't tell you for sure if what he says is what he means, but
he is certainly sincere in everything else he has ever said.

EVERYone in his position toys with the idea now and then, and he is no exception, but I
stand by my opinion until he gives me a reason to change it.

6. That's my fear with another person who may be running.
I don't even want to say it, but I fear some very powerful corporations and people would have so much to loose by a particular person being president that they would take matters into their own hands. I just hope that if this person runs, he chooses a VP that's just as threatening to the corporations. That's the best protection from assassination - a VP that's just like you, or even further left.

He strikes me as unbalanced. Plus, there's the nepotism.

12. Robert is a good man.
I support his choices, no matter if he decides to enter politics or if he remains active as the best environmental attorney in the country.
