Today is July 9th - how will Bushco deal
with the deadline from the Senate and House Judiciary committees.

``The veil of secrecy you have attempted to pull over the White House by withholding documents and witnesses is unprecedented and damaging to the tradition of open government by and for the people that has been a hallmark of the republic,'' Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., and Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., told Fielding.

They gave the White House until July 9 to furnish the factual and legal bases for the executive privilege claim and documentation that President Bush personally signed off on it.

Whether or not the White House meets the deadline, ``we will take the necessary steps to rule on your privilege claims and appropriately enforce our subpoenas backed by the full force of law,'' Leahy and Conyers wrote.

Are we heading for the Supremes?

3. By statute it goes to court via prosecution by the DC US Attorney...
Something tells me that is unlikely to happen to the Cheney administration.

8. As Leahy Said Last Week, "It would be very difficult for them not to comply"
Referring to the DA he said it would be very difficult for one of them not to respond. I imagine that is true. Bush might be able to sit back and ignore Congress using privilege as a shield, some poor slob of a Prosecutor won't wield such a big stick.

12. I have no doubt Leahy would be right in normal times, but these aren't
normal times. The USA's have already been politicized, and the message to them from Gonzolies is clear: do the bidding of the WH.

The only way to know which way it will go is to hand it over to a USA and watch.
