5. I just emailed for more info on camping.

I'd be coming from Michigan. Now I need to round up a camping buddy...hmmm, what hardy victim should I pounce on???
Already checked out the route. I'm an antsy car traveler, so I figure I'd need to make an overnight stop on the way there. It's close to a 13 hour drive, not including stops. I'd be crawling out of the sunroof after about two hours, so a stop along the way seems prudent.

on edit: Well, that was easy...one call, one hardy camper. Two from Michigan planning to be there.

8. I'm originally from Michigan and we make the trip often.
Not sure where you are in The Great Lakes State, but I lived in Lincoln Park until I married a New Englander. I found the best route for us is to go to Toledo on I-75 and then take I-80 all the way to I-81 (or is it I-83?) to Scranton. From Scranton get on I-84 to CT. I-84 to Mass Pike to the Auburn Exit in MA. (Route 290) 290 connects with 495 and then connects with 95. You will go through MA, a short bit in NH, and then into Maine. It sounds complicated, but it isn't. You can also take the NY Throughway to the Mass Pike in western MA and continue as above.

I would definitely plan on staying a night on the road so you won't be exhausted when you get to Kennebunkport. Have a great trip and I'll see you there!!!

BTW, I will be going "home" the first part of August for my high school reunion and plan to protest with the Wyandotte group while I'm in town. At the rate I'm going, I could be called a professional protester!!

9. Thank you! The Google map routed me through Toronto.
I've driven that route to Toronto, and it's not the most scenic. I'm in St. Clair Shores, so the Toledo route makes sense. I think I'll take your advice. We plan to camp somewhere about halfway through the trip. I'm really looking forward to the trip. I've never been to Maine, or any of the NE for that matter!
I'm going to bookmark this thread. DUers that plan on going should figure out some way to connect as it gets closer to the date. It would be fun to meet up!
I haven't been to Wyandotte for any of their protests, but usually go there in the summer for the annual art fair. It's one of my favorites. It's a neat community!

11. We have also taken that route via Toronto.
There are so many ways to get there. I know you will enjoy the State of Maine. One place that you must visit is Ogunquit. It is south of Kennebunkport and there is an exit right off I-95. It's usually crowded, so we park at the school on School St. Walk the Marginal Way to Perkins Cove. It's about a mile long and it is a sidewalk that is built over the rocky coast of Maine. It's beautiful! Grab a lobster roll and a cup of chowder at Barnicle Billy's at Perkins Cove. Then walk back by way of Main Street. There are a lot of wonderful shops to visit.

If you have time, try visiting Camden and Boothbay. There are several campgrounds in the area.

Glad to meet another Spartan. My husband is one, also. We met at MSU and he is from Maine. Go Green!!!

See you in Kennebunkport!!!

13. Yep, that's it!!!
You don't even have to go out of your way to see it because it's on your way. I think it's only the 3rd or 4th exit after you cross into Maine from NH. Thanks for the pictures!!!
