White House, Congress set for showdown over subpoenas
USA TODAY's David Jackson says the White House is expected to respond this morning to congressional demands that it explain its invocation of executive privilege for documents and testimony on the fired US attorneys flap.

The answer is expected to be simple: No.

White House spokesman Tony Snow confirmed that Bush counsel Fred Fielding sent a letter to the chairmen of the House and Senate judiciary committees.

Fielding repeated the White House assertion that Bush is entitled to get advice from his aides without concern that they will be forced to testify before Congress, Snow said.

The assertion blocks testimony from former White House Counsel Harriet Miers and ex-political director Sara Taylor. Now it's up to the House and Senate committees to decide whether to seek contempt citations against the White House.

1. All they want is for this to go the Bush-friendly SCOTUS
The democrats are playing right into their hands if they don't move swiftly to execute articles of impeachment. Otherwise, they'll be helping/enabling the codification of BushCo's extra-constitutional machinations.
