Al Franken Outraises Norm Coleman For Minnesota Senate Race!
(I know the Sheehan non-issue is the topic du jour, but maybe people will be able to dig up a moment or two to think about something that's actually important - like working around the jackass Connecticut electorate.)

http://www.tpmcafe.com/blog/electioncentral/2007/jul/09/al_franken_raises_1_9_million_for_minn_senate_race

"How about that. Comedian Al Franken has just announced on his blog that his Minnesota Senate campaign raised $1.9 million last quarter, outpacing his potential (and very vulnerable) 2008 GOP opponent, incumbent Norm Coleman, who raised only $1.6 million.

Franken also nearly tripled the haul of his rival for the Dem nomination, Mike Ciresi, who brought in $750,000. A few other interesting factoids about Franken's pull after the jump."

Damn that would be awesome - to get Franken in the Senate!

3. Damn cool!!!
Man, the Senate floor can use someone like Al. Not only is he very intelligent, but we all know how he can use his humor to get his point across. Wish I lived in MN to vote for him. Instead, I'll have to just send $.

5. A Democratic win is the most important thing
But, after suffering through so many Hollywood Republicans these last 30 years, a Hollywood Democrat would be nice for a change.

6. Franken has been planning this run for over two years. He's not a dilettante by any stretch.
He's dead serious, he has strong, experienced organization and good backing, and he's gonna wipe the floor with Coleman if the Party, from the Wellstonians to the moderates in the state will just get behind him and push, HARD.

Norm Coleman modulated a number of his positions with direct knowledge of the Franken candidacy. He's scared fucking shitless of the guy.

It's important to note that when a challenger outraises an incumbent, who has plenty of sugar-sweet access to lobbyists, a national party machine behind him, and has already put his hands in the pockets of big in-state donors, you've got a real RACE. Norm should be quaking in his boots.

And Franken should stay off small planes. Especially in the wintry month leading up to Election Day. IMO.

It might be time to dust off those old pics of Norm's teeth, for amusement....

13. I think he'll win, too. He is NO SLOUCH in a debate, and unlike Norm Coleman, he's a local boy.
That New York accent of Norm's just doesn't "go." Though Al also was born in NY, he was RAISED, since childhood, in MN, unlike Norm. He did his elementary and high school education there, too, and was sharp enough to get into Harvard during a time when the "Jew Quota" business hadn't entirely been eradicated.

And Al's money demographics are really good--small donors, a good sized in-state base; he can go to the well again and again:

    More on Franken's fundraising tally:

Over 20 percent of the money comes from inside Minnesota.

36,000 people contributed this year, with 20 percent of the first quarter donors returning again last quarter.
The average contribution was $65 and 95 percent of them were less that $100, countering the perception that Franken is backed by rich Hollywood liberal types.
Dick Durbin's Prarie PAC contributed $5,000, indicating some establishment Democratic Party support.

11. Y'know, among the few things that can bring a huge grin...
...to my face when contemplating today's political landscape is the thought of weasel-boy getting his butt kicked HARD-- all the way back to New York, I hope-- by Al Franken, who is a Minnesotan to the bone.

ahhhhhhhhhhh.... LOVELY thought!

blissfully,
Bright
