------------------------------

FORT COLLINS - The U.S. Atlantic basin will likely experience a very active hurricane season, the Colorado State University forecast team announced today, increasing its earlier prediction for the 2007 hurricane season.

The team's forecast now anticipates 17 named storms forming in the Atlantic basin between June 1 and Nov. 30. Nine of the 17 storms are predicted to become hurricanes, and of those nine, five are expected to develop into intense or major hurricanes (Saffir/Simpson category 3-4-5) with sustained winds of 111 mph or greater.

3. It's just *really* quiet out there. A little too quiet.

A Corps of Engineers spokesman said the Levees did great in 06. They weren't needed in 06.

5.  It rarely gets really wild until August and September. That's
when the Gulf is warmest and enticing to tropical storms for further development.

I'm in south Texas. Our weather has been more tropical for the last month. It is much wetter than usual. We had alot of thunderstorms, and it is more humid. I remember reading that the tropics are moving slightly northward with global warming. Makes sense.

They were expecting a major hurricane season last year also, and we didn't get a single scare. I'm not counting on that good luck for this year.

7. Yep...but usually we've had at least a couple tropical depressions
by now, if not full-blown storms.

8. It's still WAY early in the season.
Just wait a bit. September and October are the busy months.
