3. LOL
Heres the link they are swearing is the gospel!

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/current_events/top_stories/skeptical_of_performers_motives_public_tunes_out_live_earth_event

However, they fail to mention the network ratings. Iguess they're not talking to the right people.

7. According to that,
it says that 8 out of 10 Americans swear they are closely following the immigration debates.

I smell bullshit. 8 out of 10 want to look good for others instead of admitting to what they are really watching. And I'd bet the numbers are higher for the concerts, just people don't want to admit that they spent a day watching them.

21. I've read Rasmussen's story 3 times...
and note how very carefully it's worded. Plenty of opinions are "measured," from views on the performers to Scottie's old saw that Gore is not an expert on global warming. But not once does he mention the percentage of people who actually watched the concert(s)

And as we all know, music is the lowest form of communication.

5. Really--who cares what THEY think? They aren't the leading edge, anymore
They're in the minority on the war, on healthcare, on the environment, everything that matters.

They've always been a bit koo koo, now they're not just loonies, they're FRINGE loonies. All of them. Even the ones who try to pass as "mainstream" conservatives.

8. I cared so much that I spent the whole day watching and today I ordered
recycled hemp bags for my groceries and bought cf light bulbs for my whole house. I also went around and unplugged all my appliances/tv/stereo not in use and I have started to shut down my computer and turn off my monitor when not in use. I have also started to re-use my water from dishes and showers too water my house plants and outdoor flowers. I turn off lights when I leave a room and turn them back on when I re-enter. I turned my thermostat up four degrees and it will stay there!

They want too believe that we don't care and that it didn't make a difference and as usual, they are WRONG! Nice try, though!

I leave the A/C on from May until Oct.

My wife leaves the TV on, tuned to Animal Planet for the dogs.

I bought a new truck this year. 3/4 4X4 pick up. This one gets 11 MPG as opposed to my old one, which got 10 MPG. I have the A/C on in it from the same time period mentioned above. When I pull the trailer, I get 6 MPG.

My second vehicle is a 4X4 SUV.

I cut my grass in the middle of the afternoon. Mower and weed wacker are both gas powered.

I leave the water on in the sink when I brush my teeth.

I have a gas powered snow thrower.

9. A different perspective...
I hope this isn't take the wrong way, but from my perspective, it was a flop. Only, though, because I didn't see or hear anything about it from the time I left my house Friday afternoon until I logged onto DU late Sunday evening. Nothing.

We stayed with some friends in Vermont. They didn't mention it or know anything about it. We spent the day at Clarendon Gorge and a nearby quarry, so we weren't exactly dialed in to the latest news, but still we never heard a word about it. Did I mention our group consisted of five teenagers, the kids and guests of our hosts? They were clueless about it too.

These aren't apolitical people, but they hadn't a clue about Live Earth. We didn't hear anything about it until I looked for it.

Perhaps the freepers have a point? Maybe some of us on DU are a little too close to it to see what the so-called real world is seeing.

Sorry, I saw most of it and it was awesome! I'm sure the other 2 billion people watching were equally impressed. NO, the freepers do NOT have a point.

18. Alicia Keyes, interviewed, said that the morning of Live Earth, she turned on the TV
only too see some critic asking if these kinds of venues are really effective? She said that she hated that guy for saying that. She said that we are here making noise, trying to do something, raise awareness, etc. and what is wrong with that? Right On!

27. No; All I'm saying to you and Blue State Native is...
...when you take some time off from DU and the activist culture you'll find that for the most part, America is not immersed as you are.

We know all about this stuff because we follow it closely online every day. Even when CNN and MSNBC and FOX refuse to cover a newsworthy event, you can find the breaking stories here on DU. But most of America is yawning and turning on American Idol or whatever. They may say they hate Bush to the pollster at the grocery store, but they aren't activists. They're barely paying attention, but they know they're pissed off.

This is a good thing, to be sure. But to the extent that many here on DU think that the rest of America shares our every breath, eh...not so much.

The fact that one person's 88 year old Republican mother in Alabama watched some of it isn't really germane; of course lots of people watched it, no one here is denying that. I'm just saying that maybe the earth shattering sea change ground swell felt by those who took part in some way wasn't necessarily felt as strongly by the rest of the truth-starved world still tuned to runaway blond stories on Cabal News.

31. Point taken.
Maybe if the American corporate media did their job, and decided to forgo their profits for one 24 hour period and cover something that affects us ALL, then those Americans who are truth-starved, wouldn't be, now,on this very important issue. Right?

38. Yesterday they reported over 9 million online streams - - some reports had 10 million
http://www.reuters.com/article/internetNews/idUSN0724055520070707

Live Earth Internet streaming sets record: MSN

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Reuters) - The Live Earth global pop concerts on Saturday broke a record for an online entertainment show by generating more than 9 million Internet streams, Microsoft Corp. Web portal MSN said.

As the last two of the nine Live Earth concerts got underway, MSN product manager Karin Muskopf said the number of streams had surpassed the previous record held by 2005's Live 8 global concerts to fight poverty.

"We have exceeded any other online entertainment event," Muskopf said. "It's really exciting to see the enthusiasm for the concert."

An Internet stream is when a person watches on a computer. People can stream an event more than once -- by switching it on and off -- so 9 million streams does not necessarily mean 9 million people watching, MSN said.

Live 8 was the first major multi-venue event successfully streamed live with Time Warner Inc.'s AOL portal on the Web. AOL said 5 million people had logged on to the event on the day of those shows, but it did not say how many Internet streams of the event there had been.

MSN said it would not be able to immediately determine the number of people who logged on to Live Earth.

Control Room, producer of Live Earth and Live 8, said it found that the on-demand streams in the days after the Live 8 had the most impact, especially after clips were passed around by e-mail.

Live 8 was streamed by users more than 100 million times in the six weeks following the shows.

Live Earth is predicted to be three times bigger with organizers expecting more than 80 percent of the viewership will be on-demand in the days after the event.
