Let's have a purity purge of the Democratic Party! |
|
Edited on Mon Jul-09-07 07:08 PM by jpgray
Do you support a noble, pure, incorruptible party? Don't want to vote for a pale shivering centrist of a Democrat? Me too! Let's use Sheehan's potential method of running against those vile Dems as an independent candidate. First step is to hash out a few unimportant and trivial preliminaries:
1. List all criteria by which we will purge, and please make sure all of it agrees in every aspect with everyone else's purity criteria. We all agree on every issue, no? Of course! Now, how many pure representatives will that leave us with? Remember a pure candidate can't -ever- sell out even an inch on the war, gay/labor rights, corporate regulation, abortion, guns (uh, which we will agree on I'm sure), etc. Almost no deviance is to be tolerated--even a single vote selling out our values is unjustifiable, isn't it? So we have our work cut out for us.
2. How will we guarantee representatives targeted by the purge are replaced by our pure candidates? Please include our methods to ensure we can find such an opposing candidate in every district/state who agrees with all our very disparate values in all aspects. Also please include your methods that ensure a split progressive vote doesn't help to elect a right wing majority, though we will be comforted by not having collaborated as they ruin our country at a far greater pace.
3. Be ready to explain to Democratic voters why the party which failed to stop an imperialist war or impeach a corrupt, dangerous maniac of a president is more worthy of our attacks than the party which wholly supported/initiated the imperialist war and contains said president.

I didnt vote for the other guys. I voted for DEMS and they gave the "dangerous maniac of a president" a blank check to run his war.(period)
The republics are doing exactly what I thought they would do. What about the guys I voted for? not so much.

24. I think your motto is, "Forgive the horrible failure who took the Constitution off the table and |

wrote a blank check to fund an illegal oil war. Then apply the word purge to those who object to the insanity."
It's got a ring to it, but you should shorten it up a little.

but neither is the demand that we vote for the (D) whether we can stomach him/her or not. Despite my disagreements with the Democratic party, I'm still a lifelong Democrat. That doesn't mean that I have to vote for a particular Dem nominee against my wishes, though. It's still my vote, not the party's.

a primary election.. You can support one person in the primary and another in the general. Theres no harm in having different ideas exposed to voters in a primary, instead of accepting choice A or B and having to live with whatever you get stuck with. But if you wanna make it out to be something its not go ahead.

|
Edited on Mon Jul-09-07 07:35 PM by OzarkDem
We need to wake up our party leaders and get them to start getting things done. No more excuses, go back to the drawing board and come up with a strategy to get something substantive done now.
Dem leaders need to make a list of vulnerable GOP members and start twisting arms and putting pressure on now. There's ample evidence GOPers are feeling big pressure from voters. Now is the time to act and get what's needed now.
