Ohio '04

More registered dems then repubs
10 to 1 new registerations in favor of Kerry
Ohio lost more jobs than any other State from 2000
to 2004 *** personal ecomic factors are the #1 voting predictor
exit polls showed Kerry winning by a large margin.

BTW The U.S. Attorney Rove sent to Ohio in 2004 was running
caging operations.

I think his name was Alex Acosta ??????????

He argued that the GOP could have vote challengers in the polls ...
and the one (vote challenger) I saw on 11/2/04 had a list she was going over with
the precinct judge .... Bexely 3A or 3C .... now I know it was a caging list.

70. Wow I totally missed this story:
Ex-Justice official accused of aiding scheme to scratch minority voters

By Greg Gordon | McClatchy Newspapers
Posted on Sun, June 24, 2007

WASHINGTON — Four days before the 2004 election, the Justice Department’s civil rights chief sent an unusual letter to a federal judge in Ohio who was weighing whether to let Republicans challenge the credentials of 23,000 mostly African-American voters.

The case was triggered by allegations that Republicans had sent a mass mailing to mostly Democratic-leaning minorities and used undeliverable letters to compile a list of voters potentially vulnerable to eligibility challenges.

In his letter to U.S. District Judge Susan Dlott of Cincinnati, Assistant Attorney General Alex Acosta argued that it would "undermine" the enforcement of state and federal election laws if citizens could not challenge voters’ credentials.

Former Justice Department civil rights officials and election watchdog groups charge that his letter sided with Republicans engaging in an illegal, racially motivated tactic known as "vote-caging" in a state that would be pivotal in delivering President Bush a second term in the White House.

60. Easy people, easy people, ain't going to happen.
There will be no 2008 election and things will not get better until protesters have died in the streets. There will be another 9/11 type of an event just before the election and from there it will become a very dark time in our history. If you have money left in the stock market I'd be getting out. Keep some cash on the side, stock up on ammo, food and h20, some first aid stuff, and be ready to hunker down.

82. This on MSNBC last night...Elizabeth Holtzman on impeachment.
Edited on Tue Jul-10-07 11:17 AM by snappyturtle
Also on the broadcast were David Boies, Pat Robertson and of course, Dan Abrams. I think Elizabeth's
view on impeachment was enlightening due to her experience with Watergate. Here's a little of the conversation:

"ELIZABETH HOLTZMAN, FORMER CONGRESSWOMAN: I think that you‘re basically right, impeachment is a draconian measure, rarely to be used, and it‘s sad when it‘s to be used. But it was put in the Constitution for a very specific purpose, and that is to protect the democracy of the country, to protect the Constitution from grave abuses of power that subvert the Constitution.

When you have the rule of law being threatened, being violated, as we have seen repeatedly by this administration, by this president, by this vice president, then what do you do to preserve the democracy? And we saw that happen during the Watergate. Ultimately, it was not the Congress that initiated the impeachment process, it was the American people who said, Enough is enough.

ABRAMS: What‘s the crime?

HOLTZMAN: And that‘s what‘s happening now.

ABRAMS: What‘s the high crime?

HOLTZMAN: You don‘t need a crime. That‘s a real misconception. High crime and misdemeanor—and we had to study this when I was on the Judiciary Committee during Watergate. High crime and misdemeanor comes from ancient British practice and British lore and law. And it really means a political, quote, unquote, “crime.” Better yet, it‘s an abuse of power.

ABRAMS: But doesn‘t that...

HOLTZMAN: It‘s a grave and serious abuse of power.

ABRAMS: But doesn‘t that open the door—let me throw this to Pat. Pat, my concern is it opens the door, then—when that‘s the standard, when there‘s no sort of no firm, hard, true legal constitutional—it becomes a little mushier, then you‘re just opening it up to every time there‘s a president who the Congress doesn‘t like, we‘re going to see this happen.

PAT BUCHANAN, MSNBC POLITICAL ANALYST: Sure. Bush is at 26 percent. Truman was at 23. This would be a coup d‘etat if you impeach the president of the United States. I was in Watergate. I was in the Nixon White House. And the independent counsel special prosecutor—there were all manner of crimes of perjury and obstruction of justice attendant to the break-in and the cover-up, and the president of the United States was implicated in these. So you had offenses. Even with Clinton, you had allegations of perjury and obstruction of justice, independent counsels, special prosecutors all over him. You‘ve got nothing of that now.

Who are the collaborators of Bush if he‘s committed crimes? They ought to be investigated and prosecuted. Where‘s the special prosecutor? It would be appalling! It would be a political act. The whole—I mean, the Congress voted—mistakenly voted for this war. Hillary Clinton did. Half the Democratic candidates did on the same evidence of the president had.

ABRAMS: Let me ask you, David Boies, is there any difference in the evaluation when it comes to the vice president versus the president?

BOIES: I‘ve totally lost sound.

ABRAMS: Oh, David lost his—his sound for a second.

BOIES: I don‘t know if anybody can hear me.

ABRAMS: All right, we can, so we‘re going to cut off your mike. So don‘t say anything else that we can hear and you can‘t hear us. We apologize for that.

But Liz Holtzman, let me ask you, do you think that there is a different evaluation in terms of evaluating Vice President Cheney and the president?

HOLTZMAN: Well, I think you want to use a very high standard. I‘m not going to disagree with anybody that you need—this should be rarely used. But I will say that when we talk about a grave abuse of power—when the House Judiciary Committee voted by the largest bipartisan majority to impeach Richard Nixon, the charges were not crimes, the charges were creating an enemies list and misusing the powers of the government, taxing powers of the government, to go after political enemies, illegal wiretaps. These were not crimes at that point, but they were unconstitutional. And so that‘s the kind of charge...

ABRAMS: But that‘s for the courts to assess.

HOLTZMAN: ... that we made."

...the rest at www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19693651

Elizabeth held her own and was very credible. David Boies was paying attention and not vehemently disagreeing as he could have. Although, he was not for impeachment, he "heard" what Elizabeth was saying....and his appearance was not contrary to what she was saying. Pat was funny...panic mode!

(Underlining was mine)

It is the best thing for the country, I wish politicians would see beyound their campaign strategy and see what is the needed
for the country and the world. Maybe there are more important things than keeping their seats warm in Congress. Our founding fathers not only wrote the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution but they were considered traitors by the crown and were risking their lives doing their jobs. Contrast with today, oh, it's the best thing for us, let's build a huge war chest for the next election. Oh, it's tough on the country but let's make the 2008 campaign our top priority and let's have a nice lunch
over in Georgetown.

Constitutional face downs left and right, laws being broken with no attempt to cover it up and shit being covered up that we can not even imagine. The nation simply will not stand for it and if it will then there is not nation anyway.

I won't believe for a moment that we will not keep demanding impeachment until we get it. We have too or we've already lost our country. Americans for the most part are waking up and knowing that we must stop these criminals. Only way we won't get impeachment is if they resign which I don't think they will.

62. I'm getting the same feeling.

There's no reason to get worked up about anything the government does until we have a White House that
obeys the law.

We can leave them a bit for ciggies in stir, maybe.

69. There's just no way.
We can disagree with the guy's war, the guy's policies, the guy's commutations, and so on. But absent anything illegal that is downright scandalous in the eyes of most people, there won't be a groundswell for it and so the Congress isn't going to try it. Such an attempt at this time would surely fail and be horrendous for the Democrats next year.

But that's me.

74. Sorry to disappoint you, but there is already a "groundswell," and
an American ground and it's going to only grow.

80. Absent anything illegal? You don't think starting a war based on lies
should be considered illegal? I do. And that's just one of the many FUBARs this admin has committed. Try this one on: hiring/firing attorneys for political gain? Last I checked, that too was a big no-no.

78. I'm just stunned that there's any debate about this at all...
with all Bush and Cheney have done, they should not only be impeached, but investigated and imprisoned.

I realize that there are "political ramifications" and that we need some Repub senators to jump the fence for an actual conviction, but looking at it in plain black and white it is unbelievable that this whole administration isn't already in jail.

I also know it's a process, it won't happen tomorrow, but Conyers and others are doing their part and the groundswell is building and if we don't impeach these guys, and if we just wait 'em out until Jan 2009, then we are fucking LOST as a democracy. People thought Nixon disgraced the office, some people even thought Bill Clinton did, but Bush and Cheney have taken it to a whole new level.

I was going to write a list of all the egregious things they've done, but goddamnit, you all KNOW what they are, why are people on a liberal discussion board bickering about this? If the Congress had any collective sense at all (some do, but it has to be a consensus), both Bush and Cheney would be out on their asses well before the next election.

They have lied and cheated and shredded the Constitution and my sig pic says it all.

89. I'm thinking Cheney will get thrown under the bus..
and later pardoned, but it will be enough for me to see that fat greedy evil bastard sitting before the Senate being grilled by Pat Leahy. I'd also like to see him lose his government pension and any other public funds he's due. He's still rich enough to buy all of us ten times over, but I'd love to see no more tax dollars in his greedy pockets.

I want to see Rove behind bars, nothing else will satisfy me, but his fat ass will get pardoned too.

91. Tar & Feathers..like in the really old days..OR ..Like in Arab Nations
cut off the hands of thieves, cut the tongues from liars, "Bobbit" the unfaithful hypocrites, but with the whole Bush adminstration, that would be a lot of chopping off-of-things.

White House needs a good scrubbing, that's for certain.
