3 Murder Charges From Ky. Highway Crash
3 Murder Charges From Ky. Highway Crash
Published: 7/10/07, 10:28 AM EDT

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (AP) - An out-of-control pickup truck crossed a highway median and struck oncoming vehicles, killing a pregnant woman and an 8-year-old boy and injuring several others, police said.

The truck driver faces murder and drunken driving charges.

The pickup, pulling a trailer, was traveling north Monday evening when it crossed the median of Interstate 75 and struck the vehicles in the southbound lanes, just north of the Kentucky-Tennessee line, police said.

It struck a car, killing the boy, then overturned and struck a minivan, killing a pregnant woman who was a passenger, police said. A third vehicle was struck by debris from the truck.

The pickup driver, Raymond J. Garner, 45, of Andersonville, Tenn., was charged with drunken driving, three murder counts and driving on a suspended license, State Police Sgt. Steve Walker said. One murder charge stemmed from the death of the woman's unborn baby. He was treated at a hospital before being moved to the Whitley County jail, police said.

1. A similar accident in West Virginia over the weekend:

<snip>
A former Allegheny County man with a string of drunken driving arrests has been charged with drunken driving again in an accident outside Morgantown, W.Va., Sunday night that killed five people and critically injured three others.

The calamitous accident on Interstate 68 is the latest incident in a long struggle with alcohol for Brian J. Stone, 32, of Cheat Lake, W.Va., said his father, John.

"He's had his share of problems," John Stone said. "For most of his life, drinking was a problem."

The problems include at least seven drunken driving arrests -- five in West Virginia and two in Pennsylvania -- in the past five years. Brian Stone hasn't had a valid West Virginia driver's license for more than three years because it was revoked after his second drunken driving arrest in Monongalia County.

Asshole. :grr:

4. This has, sadly, become the norm around the country
If a pregnant woman is killed, her fetus is counted up as a murder also. It is part of the stealth campaign waged by the anti-abortion forces to get across the meme that life begins at conception.

5. I detest drunk drivers.
Selfish inconsiderate pricks. I did a bad thing recently but don't feel too bad about it. A drunk killed himself down the road from where I live. Somebody put up a "memorial" of a cross and some flowers. I decided something was missing from the memorial and then it dawned on me what it was. I got busy and collected all the empty beer cans and bottles I could find littering the road and placed them at the foot of the cross. I felt it was appropriate addition to capture the true essence of who he was.

7. i am all for the death penalty for this.
many of these people REFUSE to stop drinking and driving. we have cases here of 5TH charges. why should they be allowed to kill more INNOCENT people for their selfishness? of course. not the 1st time charged. my uncle learned his lesson after having to sleep in jail.
