So, is it time for me to make a run for the border?
Working Assets, my long distance provider, also contains a left-leaning activist community which sends out periodic notices regarding hot-button issues and asking subscribers to sign and send Working Assets' form letters to various officials asking/demanding that they take certain actions. Last night, I got one of their notices and looked at the menu of pre-written letters. I responded to four: Libby to Gitmo; Impeach Cheney; Impeach Gonzales; save Net Neutrality.

However, since I don't like using form letters, I usually write my own, and use my real name. In Gonzo's case, I wrote this:

"Impeach this partisan hack. I've seen better lying from a junkie caught red-handed than I witnessed at his congressional hearing.

"You'd think someone occupying the highest law enforcement position in the land could at least remember a few of the things he did over the past several months. But not this guy; he claimed he couldn't remember some rather significant meetings, emails and other communications or events 64 separate times during his alleged testimony.

"So he's either a serial liar or a mental defective. Both are grounds for removal from office, and I urge you to take the proper steps to do so before the rest of the world splits its collective sides laughing at what's become of the American justice system."

So along with the usual "thank you for your participation..." note from Working Assets, I also got this little note:

From: ASKDOJ@usdoj.gov
Subject: RE: Gonzales must go
Date: July 9, 2007 9:46:45 PM PDT
To: xxxx@xxx.xxx

"Thank you for contacting the Department of Justice. This is an automatic acknowledgement (sic) that your e-mail was received. It will be reviewed in the order it was received."

I replied: "Of course you will, you soulless android." Which may not have been the most tactful answer in terms of self-preservation, but I just can't get myself to show the proper reverence when communicating with these swine.

I assume these kinds of messages are culled by the NSA snitches -- may they meet painful and protracted fates -- as they troll for "controversial" subject lines and forward them to "the proper authorities."

Anyway, Vancouver is beautiful this time of year. Do you suppose I should pack a bag or two and visit it for an undetermined period of time? Or is this just normal bullshit meant to seem threatening but ultimately no big deal?

Any and all opinions on this are much appreciated.

Thanks, and if all else fails, I'll see you in Gitmo.

16. I'm sure in such plush accommodations we'll all have five-star suites...
The deep bathtubs help heal the lash wounds faster, and the sound systems are good enough to handle the decibel levels needed to turn guts to water and brains to cream of wheat.

17. And plenty of warm salt water for the deep tubs.
Perhaps they would let us establish a DU wing.

22. DU Wing..
That would be military slang for Dissidents Unclothed and strapped under the Wing of a C-130 for low-altitude release into the shark- infested waters off Cuba. Or something like that.

18. Yeah, but the Gitmo library is probably somewhat limited...
I'm thinking Hannity's new screed, the collected wit and wisdom of Ann Coulter, maybe the O'Reilly children's reader, a scholarly analysis validating the concept of endless war, and even a humorous look at the twins as they cavort their way through their trust funds, puke in seedy roadhouses, and perform weird sex acts on a variety of inanimate objects.

Or we'll all have to become books, like Bradbury described in "Fahrenheit 451," where thousands of people are each responsible for memorizing a book cover to cover, which has become the only way to preserve literature in a time of book burnings and political repression.

I'll take "My Pet Goat" cause it's short with big print and lots of clever pictures. You take Howard Zinn's "Peoples History..." and we'll meet once a week by the cages to share information. And yeah, it's an unequal share, but my brain cells have been dying for at least 35 years and "My Pet Goat" is probably the best I can do these days.

Best,

3. No, you weren't making a terrorist threat nor were you advocating
violence in any form. You were advocating the impeachment of a corrupt official.

You're still allowed to do that.

I would, however, contact Working Assets and ask them just what the fuck is going on.

8. Contacting Working Assets
Yeah, I did that last night. Haven't heard back from them, but I'm curious if all calls for Gonzo impeachment are automatically forwarded to the DoJ. I'll post on this thread if I hear back from Working Assets.

Meanwhile, thanks for the post. That's about how I see it, but this country is so close to making "thought-crime" an indictable felony and you just never know what evil lurks in the soul-shriveled automatons that run the show.

21. Clarification on above post...
Too late for the edit function, so...

When I wrote "...I'm curious if all calls for Gonzo impeachment are automatically forwarded to the DoJ.", I didn't mean they were forwarded by Working Assets. I meant that they were probably flagged by some automated word association software at the NSA, and that THEY then forwarded it to the DoJ. Or, knowing these bastards' penchant for overkill, maybe the DoJ has its own snooping program in place that mirrors what the NSA does, but possibly looks for different character strings.

Ahh.. Who the hell knows what these pricks are up to from day to day..

23. One more point...
You're right in that I didn't advocate violence or make a specific threat. However, in police states, perhaps the main requirement for avoiding the scrutiny of various enforcement agencies is showing respect for authority.

They don't appreciated getting laughed at, ridiculed, getting called on their bullshit, or any other word or action that shows you're not cowed by them and are not going to go along with their program. As such, any form of "thought crime" is probably far more threatening and/or offensive to the self-image of a totalitarian state than conventional crime.

As O'Brien says to Winston Smith in 1984 just before taking him to the dreaded Room 101, "If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face - forever."

That's the wet dream of fascists everywhere, including those in and around the White House these days. And Gonzo, twit and incompetent dickhead though he is, has the power conferred by his office to decide which boot and whose face.

9. Well, there's that...
I assume that my pseudonym and real name are both well known in the dissident tracking community. I've kind of expected some version of this for a long time. It's just when it happens, no amount of preparation can suppress that rush of adrenalin and elevated heart rate. After all, both sides are playing for keeps. Neither is fucking around. I do what I can by writing articles that expose/explain/dissect how the devious bastards use fear to keep the gullible populace in line, as well as trying to keep people aware of their unending stream of hypocrisy and bullshit that pollutes the American landscape, and is given the gloss of respectability by our useless mass media.

As to school, I was going for a masters a while back, but had to suspend that program for lack of sufficient money. I've been doing my consulting gig pretty regularly these days, so I might be able to afford to return in a little while. Hope so; I love grad school and, while a degree isn't going to make much difference career-wise at my age, it's still something I've wanted to accomplish for a long time. Do they allow mail-order classes at Gitmo?

19. Sorry, warren, I didn't mean to be so flippant
It's sort of a "whistling past the graveyard" response to what this country has become under these rat bastards. Yes, we should all be worried now that we know what they're doing and why. Kudos to you for keeping up the good work knowing the possible consequences.

Sorry to hear about educatus interruptus especially since it wasn't a means to an end.

20. Not at all...
I think the only sensible response to these pricks and prickettes is uncompromising resistance moderated by the ability to maintain a sense of humor and laugh your ass off at the incredible list of screw-ups, lies and quasi-religious hypocrisy the oozes non-stop from these awful incompetents.

It's just sanity preservation, and so far it's worked for me (although some would question the results).

Although in such a tropical place, some nice plant hangers might come in handy. Or we could make fashionable vests to wear over the jumpsuits.

that's what i get for being flippant, i guess. Dried cod. The Molson sounds good, though.

I've a mind to join you. Always wanted to live on Vancouver so hubby could ski Whistler.

And this country is getting close to the point.

The message went to Gonzales. As Attorney General, his public email would be a DOJ account. This is likely the standard response that everyone gets when they send messages to that address.
