Another cheery (not) poem to lighten your day that just seeped into my brain


"Humvee"

They tell us we're strong, but I'm afraid.
So are my friends. This feels so wrong.

Day after day we ride the roads of rubble that we've made.
Looking for ghosts in houses and boxes hidden in shade.

Every corner might be our last, drive fast, but can't beat the blast.
The sound deafens, being thrown now, mind remembering my past.

Which way am I heading?
Is this my body shredding?

Pain, sticky syrup and pieces of my friends.
Metal, fire and I become one, then darkness. The futile ride finally ends.

I'm really sick of channeling the horrors of this damn war. Now my muse is feeding it to me from first person perspective. This can't be good news for my psyche.

3. Yes, be careful...

...it's so easy to get sucked dry by the sheer volume of the horrors that are going on.

My own obsession is 9/11, I fantasize that I might one day find the "key" that unlocks what really happened. Fat chance, of course. But I know that we don't have the real story and it kills me.

We need to know the truth. The truth that you expressed is not of the factual kind, it is the truth of the soul.

But don't forget to take care of yourself. Do something fun. There is nothing wrong with it, you know -- there is no moral failing in taking a break, taking a breath, getting out in nature, doing whatever it takes to clear your mind and remind yourself, there's a lot that is good out there too.
