Green Friendly Lightbulb Really Work

I had to change a couple of regular lights bulbs today and was thinking about the Green Friendly bulbs I have installed in 8 fixtures throughout my house.

I compared my electric bill when I had regular bulbs till now and over the past year have saved about $100.00 the cost in replacing bulbs....about $60.00.....the cost to change to Green Friendly bulbs $13.00....

Pretty neat huh!!!

1. I have them everywhere

except our old vanity mirror in the bathroom. I figure I save about $10-15 a month.

2. Are those the ones that are coiled tube-y things?

I have them too, but I haven't checked to see if I'm saving money yet.

Is one particular brand better than others?

But I do like the soft white ones better than crispy white color.

3. I noticed the drop in my electric bill immediately when I switched to

CFLs several years ago. I figure they have saved me hundreds of dollars in electricity. Also, they generate less heat so they don't have that nasty tendency to increase the need for AC in the summer.

5. i've been

slowly replacing my light bulbs around the house with these new bulbs. started in with the most used lights first, and well the rest as they die.

sure it's a little expensive right up front (~$4-5 for a single new bulb vs the same for like 4 old bulbs), but they should last a bit longer and well who doesn't like the 13/15w vs 60w difference?

6. CFL bulbs are good

Also,keep an eye out for the new LED bulbs that will be hitting the market soon.They use even less power than cfl's and don't have that annoying flicker either.

7. Rememeber CFL ARE florescent lights. They contain mercury...

...vapour. It's a tiny amount, and if you are on coal derived electricity, it's less than comes from burning the extra coal required to supply the equivalent incandescent.

Even so mercury is mercury. Recycle your CFLs and your ordinary flouros responsibly.
