Lieberman Launches Unprovoked Attack On Harry Reid On Right-Winger Bill Bennett's Show
By Greg Sargent and Eric Kleefeld | bio

What a guy. This morning, Joe Lieberman went on right-winger Bill Bennett's syndicated radio show — and in those safe conservative confines, Lieberman went out of his way to bash Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid.

In the midst of a long tirade against anti-war Senators, Lieberman brought up Reid on his own, without any sort of prompting or even any mention of Reid from Bennett. We obtained audio of the show from the members only section of Bennett's Web site. Check it out at link~

Here's what Lieberman said:

"You know, Harry Reid said a while ago that the war in Iraq is lost. It's wrong. It's not lost. In fact, I would say we're beginning to win it. We've turned the tide with the new strategy. And in fact, I cannot conceive of a circumstance in which American forces would lose the war in Iraq, on the ground in Iraq. If we lose it, it's gonna be lost here at home, in a different kind of war for public opinion and political support."

It's harder to know what's more remarkable here: The fact that Lieberman said that he "cannot conceive" of even the possibility that American forces might be losing the war, or the fact that Lieberman launched an unprovoked, gratuitous attack on Reid.

After all, it's all but certain that Lieberman thinks that Reid's "war is lost" comment is damaging both to Reid and to Dems in general. We think this is wrong, but there's little doubt that Lieberman thinks this, given his frequent exhortations that Dems return to what he calls their past posture of national security "strength." Yet without any prompting Lieberman brings it up anyway.

What's more, Reid has repeatedly gone out of his way to praise Lieberman, despite the tensions that exist between Lieberman and Democratic activists.

2. Hpw convenient
If we "win" it's because of wingnut hawks like Lieberman who cheer-lead on the sidelines despite the grim facts on the ground--but if we lose, it's because Reid harbors anti-war sentiments. :eyes:

11. Nope...the Senate is organized under the rules that the Democrats push through.
They keep control of the committees and the agenda through this session. No reason to keep Joe in the caucus...in fact, I'll bet he's sharing Democratic strategy with the Republicans.

12. They can, and would, re-write those rules.
We did it when Jeffords switched sides.

15. I think they'd need to have a motion that would require 60 votes to pass.
This has been discussed in various places and the consensus seems to be that the organizing rule is in place regardless of whether the Democrats maintain a numerical majority or not.

5. OK, Lieberman why don't you pay out the $12 billion a month and hire your own army to fight it.

8. This POS embarrasses me on a daily basis.
At first, it was a few times a month when he would open up his pie hole and bash all the Democrats for not living "realistically".

Now it's everyday.

The sad part is that I don't see the outrage that I'm feeling here in CT. People seem to not care that this guy LIED his was through the election, won on smears and fears and has now turned into the complete opposite of the Joe who appeared in many ads telling us that he "wants to bring the troops home as much as the next person".

STFU Joe you self-serving, lying piece of shit.

9. Joe is,...sick. Okay?
He is so sick that he is vulnerable to any predator seeking to seize his soul. I mean, he has already been so sick and vulnerable that the predator HAS SEIZED HIS SOUL.

Give the man ALL your sympathy. Tell him, every single day, if possible, how sorry you feel about his deal with the devil,...and your hope he'll come back to some sense of grace.
