Evangelical family settles case with Oregon over war protest

Last Update: Jul 10, 2007 8:07 AM

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - An evangelical Christian family in Oregon has received a $25,000 check from the state to settle a lawsuit over their protest of the Iraq war.

The Brownlow family has a son stationed in Iraq and say they are fighting to bring him home. They say a state trooper violated their rights last year when he took away an anti-war banner they were waving and threatened to arrest them.

The trooper has denied the allegations. And the state has now settled the case.

But the Brownlows say they will continue to fight the war using a portion of the settlement money to fund a campaign to persuade other evangelicals to stop supporting the war.

They're liable to let him rot in Iraq.
